Sunshine(Chap 19)

Amaya pov:

"She did what?" Dexter bangs the table, making my sandwich tilt to the side.

"She wanted to make a deal saying that I keep Luke so you can see him while you're with her," I repeat for the hundredth time.

A vein in his jaw tenses and he leans back trying to think while I sip on my mango smoothie.

"Is she really Luke's baby mother?" I ask, curiosity, gnawing inside off me.

That shakes Dexter out of his thoughts as he looks at me and takes a breath, leaning forwards.

"Yeah. I met her when I was in my last year of high school. She was supposed to be a sponsor but I caught her eye,"

"How so? How does a high schooler catch her eye?" I frown.

"I was popular, as aways-" he shoots me a grin and I roll my eyes.

"But, the main reason was because of my father. My mother died of breast cancer and my father remarried. My first stepmother and I hated each other but eventually we made a deal. She goes to all of my school events and gets me out of trouble if I leave her alone,"

"I see...so you and your stepmom made a deal in order for your father's happiness,"

"Yep," he ran a hand through his hair and let out a shaky laugh.

"But, he divorced her when I was 16 because he found out that she had been keeping my school grades from him,"

"Ohh I see, so how does that relate though to that lady?"

"Her name is Wila. She saw how rich my father was and the only reason why she was a sponsor for my school was to get close to me,"

"My father remarried to her and that's when my life really turned into hell. She would always be touchy around me and my father. My father was always busy with work so he never noticed until one night,"

"I got totally dunk and as always my father was working later but she came into my bedroom and climbed onto me...."

I bite the inside of my cheek to try and not to show my disgust at what she did.

"Afterwards she got pregnant but kept it a secret from my dad by claiming on wanting to go on a holiday with her friends.

"She went on holiday, had the baby and brought it to me. She thought that it could help tie me down to her and make her stay. But I was 19 then so I wanted to get away.

"That's when I moved out and took Luke with me but I didn't realise that she would be back,"

Dexter sits there and watches my expression as I look back at him and watch his. Sympathy builds up in me but I know he doesn't want it.

He just wants a friend who he can say this too without judging or criticism.

"So....who else knows?" I peer at him.

"Celean and Max. And maybe Angelo. He knows like half of the story,"

I nod my head and then move my smoothie across the table to him.

"Here, you can have the rest," I say casually.

"Really? I thought you loved your sweet drinks?" He narrows his eyes at me.

"What can I say? I'm too lazy to finish the rest," I mumble, not catching his eye.

I don't know how else to comfort him but giving him food or something sweet for him to have.
