Fatherhood (Chap 25)

Dexter pov:

Today is definitely gonna suck real bad. I don't know how but I just have a feeling that it's gonna be shit.

I groan as a small hand, bangs onto my nose and I roll over to see Luke, looking at me with wide eyes.

"Oops, I didn't mean to wake you, daddy."

"Don't worry about it, little man. I was already awake before," I ruffle his hair and glance at the time.

Today was the day I was going to speak to my father. No not the fallen dark angel who is a  handsome bastard and annoyingly gets on my nerves.

I meant my actual biological father. The one who abandoned me and let that gross woman into my life.

"Why do you look sad?" Luke bops my nose and rolls onto my chest as I adjust my arms around him.

"Its because I'm seeing someone today,"

"Who is it?" Luke peers at me, curious.

"Its my father,"

"I thought you liked grandad. You should toll forgive him even if he did show me you being funny," Luke giggles as I look at him confused.

"What are you-"

Damn it, he was talking about Harrison and when he showed Luke that time I got drunk.

I'll get him back one day for showing my son those pictures. Me and Luke freshen up and get breakfast, flopping down on the couch.

The doorbell goes and I throw Luke over my shoulder to answer it, seeing its Max.

"Max!!" Luke smiled and hugs him from my shoulder before clinging onto him.

"Babysitter has arrived for duty," he grins and salutes Luke before I put him down.

"Thanks man, for helping to look after him. I've gotta go see him,"

He hesitates and looks at me worried before sighing and running a hand through his hair.

"Alright, man but seriously you gotta come back and let me know. And remember don't let yourself be gaslight like last time,"

"Caring for me, Max? Being the mum of the group as always," I let out an easy smile as he rolls his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever man. Just make sure to come back in one piece. I mean you haven't seen him in years,"

"Don't worry, I got you to protect me, mother," I tease him as he swats me away and drags me out the house.

"Be back soon alright? Or else I'll show pictures to your son of your ugly ass."

I flip him off, laughing and grabbed my coat, heading down the stairs.

————————————-(Time skip)

Standing by the front door of your old childhood apartment wasn't the best idea to start off your day.

Especially since your father abandoned you for work and your second stepmother molested you.

Jesus, fucking Christ.

How many years has it been since I saw my father? Maybe...three or four.

It doesn't really matter though since we barely even saw each other anyways. Like two ghosts wondering around inside this place.

I go to knock on the door when it opens and there stands a reflection of myself but older.

Smile line along his eyes has crinkled up and his face has lost all laughter and smiles. Just a stern ghost who's living in a shell of himself.
