At one in the afternoon, Adam put on his cowboy hat, left the house, and drove to hers. On the way there, some villagers were outside watering their flower gardens. They saw him and waved; he tipped his hat to them. Arriving at her house, he parked on the curb and got out of his car. He rang the doorbell and and she answered the door. "Hey, glad to see you, he said happily, giving her a peck on the cheek. She nodded, saw his red Ferrari, and screamed with excitement. "Wow, this is a really cool car!," she exclaimed, sitting down in the passenger seat.
"Thanks, I'm happy that you like it," he replied, turning on the radio and lowering the volume. "So, what kind of dance do you teach for the class?," he asked, putting one hand on her knee.
"It's a ballet/square dance class," she replied. He nodded and smiled at her.
"I have no experience with ballet, but I'm really good at square dancing," he replied. "We've already made a lot of progress on our songs, but I think that our show will be a lot better if there's dancing, too. She looked at him thoughtfully, then considered her current job situation.
"I'm interested in square dancing with you, but I won't have time to focus on both talents at once, " she replied.
"I think you would have a lot of fun singing with me on stage," he said.
"Adam! So good to see you!," her mom declared, giving him a warm hug.
"You too! Wow, what's that wonderful smell?," putting his nose in the air and taking a huge whiff.
"I'm baking cupcakes for the annual bake sale," she replied. "This is the last batch, and I'm going to make blueberry scones next." He nodded, a smile on his face.
"Do you want to help?," she asked excitedly, looking kindly at Emily and smiling happily at her.
"Yeah, sounds great! I love to bake!," she replied. His mom nodded and pointed to the dry ingredients that she had already prepared beforehand. "I already took care of the dry ingredients. You can take care of the wet ingredients, okay?" she said.
"Okay! " Adam put a hand on her shoulder and she turned to look at him. "I'll give you the eggs to crack. The rest of the wet ingredients are over here," he explained, pointing to the heavy cream, eggs, and vanilla extract next to an empty mixing bowl. He gave her the eggs one by one and she cracked them perfectly on the side of the bowl. "Nicely done!" he proclaimed, giving her a hug and a kiss on the lips. He handed her a whisk and she started whisking. After she was done, he handed her the bowl of dry ingredients and she mixed them together. They poured the mixture onto the counter, formed it into a disc, and cut into wedges. They brushed each piece with heavy cream. She looked at him, confused about what to do. " You need to keep the dough as cold as possible. Put the wedges in the refrigerator for at least fifteen minutes," he explained. She opened the fridge and put them inside. Adam set the timer on his phone for fifteen minutes, pulled out a chair for her to sit in, sat down in the one on her left, and put his arm around her.
When the timer went off, he got up, got the wedges out of the refrigerator, lined a baking tray with baking sheet paper, put them on top, and checked the timer on the oven. There was still five minutes until the muffins would be done. He waited five minutes, opened the oven, placed the scones inside, turned off the timer, and set it for twenty minutes. While his dad made coffee, his mom got some plates for everyone to eat with while they waited.
"So, Adam, do you want to check out my dance class tomorrow? We could tell Scott that you're going with me, I know he'll understand," she said, putting her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah, sure! Sounds fun!" he replied, grinning from ear to ear.
"Wonderful! I know you'll love it!" she exclaimed, kissing him passionately. His parents were happy that their son was falling in love with a lovely girl who had the same talents as him, even though her style of dance was different from his.
