As the interrogation progressed, Kiester began to reveal more about his dealings with Vincent Moretti. "I started working with Moretti because I was interested in his daughter, Erin," Kiester confessed. "But she rejected my advances, and things went south from there. That's why I was meeting with a different woman earlier at the restaurant, trying to move on, I guess."
Nin scoffed, half of her finding it funny.
Sye, sensing an opportunity, pressed further. "So, you have a history with Erin Moretti? What can you tell us about her current involvement with Moretti or his operations?"
Kiester hesitated, his face shifting to one of guarded determination. "I'm not going to talk about Erin. She's not part of this discussion."
Nin, who had been observing quietly, tensed up. She stepped forward, her irritation evident. "Look, Kiester, if you want to avoid a worse situation, you need to be more fucking forthcoming. Erin's involvement could be important."
Sye intervened smoothly, trying to manage the situation. "Kiester, it's in your best interest to be honest about everything. We need a complete picture to understand what's going on. Withholding information about Erin might not help your case."
Kiester remained resolute, shaking his head. "I'm not saying another word about Erin. I've already told you more than enough."
Nin, frustrated by Kiester's refusal, exchanged a quick glance with Sye. The tension in the room was intense, and it was clear that Kiester's reluctance to discuss Erin was becoming a significant obstacle.
Sye took a deep breath and adjusted her approach. "Alright, Mr. Kiester. We appreciate the information you've shared so far. We might revisit some of these topics later if necessary. For now, we need to decide on our next steps."
Sye stepped out of the room, while Nin, clearly displeased with the outcome, kept a watchful eye on Kiester. She felt that Kiester's refusal to talk about Erin was a significant roadblock, and she was determined to get the information they needed.
Nin approached Kiester, his expression a mix of defiance and unease. She didn't say a word as she stepped closer, her resolve clear.
Kiester's eyes widened as he noticed her approach. "Wait, what are you-"
Before he could finish, Nin's fist connected with his jaw in a sharp, calculated blow. Kiester grunted in pain, recoiling slightly. Nin didn't relent, she followed up with a series of controlled strikes, targeting his midsection and face. Each hit was delivered with precision, aimed at making him feel the intensity of the situation without causing permanent harm.
Kiester, wincing and gasping for breath, began to show signs of breaking under the pressure. "Alright, alright! I'll talk!" he croaked, his voice trembling.
Nin paused, stepping back slightly but keeping a watchful eye on his bloody face. "You'd better start talking. We need everything you know about Erin."
Kiester, clearly shaken, began to speak, his words coming out in hurried, pained bursts. "Erin... Erin is involved with some of the more sensitive operations. She's not just a bystander; she's actively working on things with Moretti. But I don't know all the details, she's kept a low profile."
Nin's gaze hardened. "What else do you know? Don't leave anything out."
Kiester, clearly anxious, continued to provide the information he had. "She's been working closely with Moretti's inner circle. There are some high-stakes projects she's involved in, but she's also very private. I'm not sure of all her roles, but she's definitely more involved than I initially let on."
Satisfied that Kiester had provided enough information, Nin stepped away, allowing him to catch his breath. Minutes later, Sye and Naz stepped into the room, slightly surprised by Kiester's bloody face and Nin's bloody fist.
Naz, then pulled Nin out of the room to attend her wounds. And... maybe a little bit of a scolding session.
Sye addressed Kiester with a calm, collected demeanor. "Thank you for your cooperation. We'll be sure to follow up on what you've shared. For now, we'll leave you to recover."
"What? Wait!! Don't leave me here!" Kiester begged.
Too late, the door was slammed shut.
As the group reconvened, they reviewed the new information about Erin's involvement with Moretti and began strategizing their next moves. Nin's direct approach had yielded crucial details, and they were now better positioned to understand Erin's role and how it might impact their investigation.
