Murder in Manhattan 2: Copycat

For the rest of the day I was thinking about whether I should tell Carrie or Chris about Asher. Chris and I never fight, if I were to break up with him he would ask why and I don't want to drag him into this mess.

"Nia." Carrie said.

"Yeah."

"We need to search Irene's house." Chris said.

Carrie and Chris drive there together, which means Asher and I need to drive together.

"Look at us, driving together, this must be a sign from God."

"You can shove that sign where the sun doesn't shine."

"Feisty, I like it."

For god sakes.

"Remember, all the reports go to me."

"Yeah, you don't need to remind me."

"Earlier you said you and Carrie had to work hard to get where you are now. What does that mean? How old are you and Carrie?" Asher asked.

"Me and Carrie are 19."

"19!"

"Yep, we solved our first case at 17, me, Carrie, and Chris weren't even detectives that time. My dad was a police officer and was very protective of me. My mom died nearly 10 years ago, she got shot trying to save me. She died that same night and my dad low-key blamed me. Long story short, my friends and I solved a murder and became the youngest detectives in history."

"What did you solve?"

"The Green Stone Killer."

"I've heard of that case, you're telling me you solved the biggest case ever at 17!"

"Yep."

"Who was the killer?"

"My old friend. He wanted to find me."

"Why? Were you on the run?"

"No, nothing like that. When I was 15 he tried to rape me, but then Carrie and Chris saved me. That's why me and Chris are dating, because if it weren't for him Ryan would have raped me."

"Why did he do it?"

"Do what?"

"He tried to rape you, then killed people just because he was looking for you."

"We became friends a few years after my mom died. I guess he still saw how sad I was, and he knew my dad and I never had the best relationship because I had my mom. She was the one who I could talk to. But after she died my dad and I became more distant. Ryan saw how sad I was so he must have thought he could do anything and I'll let him get away with it."

"Well, enjoy it while it lasts."

"What does that mean?"

"You didn't know? Ryan has been behaving in prison so the court is lowering his sentence, he's getting out in a few days."

"How many days are we talking about here?"

"I'd say maybe 5 days."

Ryan is getting out in 5 days! After he broke the restraining order he was getting at least 5 years. Now he's getting out again?

"We're here." Asher said.

"Okay."
