These 2 are really short so I decided to combine them so it's longer.
I just read a first chapter of a book and there was no paragraphs, not even for time skips or POV swaps. It was hard to read and I couldn't just comment on one section it had to be on the whole paragraph.
Me being the blunt-ass bitch I am saw the 'Tell me what you guys think' part and said 'I think you need to retake English' because it was so shitty. Poor grammar, no paragraphs, no structured sentences or descriptive language. I know it was rude but some people need it blunt to make it sink in. The idea was great it was just poorly written.
Enough of this, it's time to do what I'm here for: To teach.
Here are some points where you should/need to make a new paragraph:
You're describing a new person
Starting a new topic
Switching POV's
New character is talking
Time changes
Paragraph is getting too longDo this and you'll find that your readers are happy and no hate is coming in like water through a broken dam!
Many authors aren't using big, strong words to describe their scenes and characters so I'm going to show you how!
When you write it's great to have a list of strong words so if you edit you can add them or just use them while writing. You can easily find these on google or Pinterest.
This is me writing without descriptive language:
She sat down, drinking her drink. The drink burnt her mouth but she kept drinking, not wanting to be seen as weak and pathetic. This is me using it:
She sat down softly, sipping at her molten hot tea. Lila nearly died from the heat that burned her tongue but she bore it, not wanting to be visualised as weak and pathetic.See the difference? One makes you think a child has written it and the rest won't be too great. The second is more promising, showing the excellent writing to come
