The Dogs

My husband and I lived in a shed in my mother-in-law's back yard in a tiny trailer park. We had planned to get our own place but did not have the financials saved up. It wasn't terrible, and life was fairly boring. Occasionally we would spot some dogs or some coyotes running around but nothing major. Not until one day. Everything went to hell.
The day started off fairly normal, the usual dogs barking through the fences when people drove by, and just a slight bit of traffic. The sun was shining bright and it was fairly warm outside. Some dust flew around the yard as I trudged inside the house to use the restroom. Joseph, my brother-in-law was sprawled out on the living room couch asleep while John and Stephanie, my in-laws were joking around in their room.
I quickly used the restroom, grabbed a soda, and headed back out to our shed, where I grabbed the television remote and switched on the PS4. I pulled up Minecraft and opened one of my worlds and began to play. My husband, Garrett, was at work since he didn't have the day off today.
We had all planned on having a few drinks this evening since everyone was off the next day. Stephanie and John had already put some Bud Lights and Sea Grams in the ice box for tonight and we planned on burgers for dinner.
At around 7 we all decided to go outside and start popping the drinks open and Stephanie decided to start cooking. That's when everything went to complete shit.
Dogs flooded our yard, left and right! Big dogs, little dogs, medium dogs, and all different breeds. They weren't friendly either. They started attacking and bit down on Joseph's leg, and on John's arm. Stephanie and I made it inside the house almost unscathed. I had tripped over the steps to the entrance but quickly gained my balance again.
Joseph and John did their best to fight off the dogs, but there was just too many of them. They managed to down about 10 dogs, but couldn't manage all of them. There had to be at least 30 of them! I got worried because Garrett was supposed to come home in 5 minutes. I quickly called him and told him to be very careful coming home and warned him of the dogs.
Soon, he was home, and somehow managed to fight through the dogs with a bite on his leg. I grabbed whatever I could to bandage his leg and he kissed me and headed back outside with a knife. Stephanie and I knew better than to look outside because we knew there would be carnage and gore if we tried to look outside.
Pretty soon, the air started smelling like pure iron. The barking and growing could be heard very loudly through the door and windows, and for one of the first times in ever, Stephanie and I hugged each other for comfort as the barking seemed deafening. The iron smell grew stronger and slapped our noses as tears welled in our eyes. Then, everything went silent. Completely silent. So silent, you could hear a pin drop.
Time seemed to stand still as Stephanie and I exchanged concerned looks. We were terrified! I decided to take a peak out of the window, and to this day I regret it. Dogs everywhere. Dead and bleeding out. Some had their intestines exposed, some didn't have a head, and some had their heads bashed in. Carnage. Gore. Dead dogs.
As I took in the sight, all three guys burst in the house. A wave of relief washed over us as they came in. They looked banged up but overall at least ok for the most part. The iron smell began soak into the walls and we knew we had to clean up all of those dogs. At least they weren't coming after us anymore and everyone was safe again.
