Everything started off normal for me, at least for the most part. I had gone to my morning exercise class and had some breakfast. When 10:30 am rolled around, my husband and I headed off towards my place of work. We had matching shifts from 11 am-8 pm. I worked at a fast food tex mex place and he worked at a retail store.
We got to my job about 10:45 so I kissed him goodbye and headed inside to use the restroom and put my belt in my pants loops. After I finished, I went and clocked in then got started on my work.
I started wiping down trays and then went around to wipe off dirty tables when one of my favorite coworkers came in, so I went up to say hi. We talked for a second then got right back to work to avoid getting yelled at.
As time went by, we started running low on chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies. I agreed to make the cookies begrudgingly because something had begun to happen when I made cookies. Every time I made them, the sugar cookies specifically, a little bit of my right foot would cave in. Some skin would fall out and had begun forming a small hole in my foot that would continue to grow bigger every time I made sugar cookies.
I often tried to get out of making them due to the issue but I just could not get out of it this day. So, I went to the freezer, grabbed the dough, and slipped the cookies in the oven. Sure enough as I went to put the cookies in our display case, I felt my foot begin to lose skin. I looked down and peeled off my sock. The hole in my foot had grown to almost the entirety of the top of my foot, and I watched as skin fell down into the spot from near the back to the very bottom of my middle toe on my foot. I freaked, and quickly put the cookies away and knew I had to let my manager know.
I pulled back on my sock and walked up to my manager, Alex. I got his attention and told him what happened and actually showed him my foot. He agreed that I probably should not do the cookies anymore, specifically the sugar ones. I hadn't told anyone about the issue before because I was insecure about it and couldn't bring myself to let him know, but letting him know is what saved me from losing my foot entirely.
I never did have to do the cookies again. I still have the massive cave in on my foot, but i can walk just fine. And my shoes mainly cover up the deformity so not many people can tell. I never wear sandals anymore and this is just my life now.
