Ruby was headed to her favourite cafe where she promised she would take Kylie as she always spoke so high of the place Kylie really wanted to go. Ruby had always gone when to that particular cafe when her day was just not going her way, today her boyfriend kept leaving her unread and she was tired of it. Upon entering Ruby spotted a familiar face. Her boyfriend, with another girl.

Ruby walked over to her boyfriend immediately confronting him, her voice had been steady at first, but it soon shattered into jagged pieces. Soon an argument erupted right in the middle of a busy cafe.

"Are you cheating on me?" Ruby's voice was a mix of disbelief and anger.

Caught off guard but clearly defensive, shrugged. "Ruby, it's not what you think."

"Not what I think? I saw you together, Don't lie to me!"Ruby snapped, her eyes brimming with tears.

Kylie had been standing a few feet away, her face pale and her hands clenched into fists at her sides. She had been a silent observer until the argument escalated, the man's voice growing louder and more aggressive.

"You're overreacting, Ruby. It was just a mistake," Jason argued, his tone increasingly sharp.

"No, no, you don't get to tell me that! It wasn't just a mistake. It was a betrayal!" Ruby's voice cracked as she fought back the tears. "I trusted you! I loved you!"

"That sounds like a you problem!" He stood up, clearly very much taller than Ruby and honestly it was kind of terrifying.

Kylie stepped forward, her voice firm and full of anger. "That's enough. You need to leave. Now."

His eyes widened in surprise, and he opened his mouth to protest, but Kylie's intense gaze silenced him. "You've done enough damage. Ruby deserves better than this."

For a moment, he hesitated, then turned and stormed out of the coffee shop, slamming the door behind him. Ruby watched him go, her body trembling with a mix of relief and lingering hurt. The silence that followed was thick and heavy.

Kylie moved closer, her expression softening as she reached out to Ruby. "Come on, let's get out of here."

Ruby nodded, her throat tightening as she fought to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. The two girls left the coffee shop together, Kylie's arm around Ruby's shoulders providing a comforting support.

Once they were in Kylie's car, Ruby broke down. Her tears now running down her face bringing her mascara with them, she struggled to find words between her sobs. Kylie, sensing her friend's pain, lead Ruby into her arms. "It's okay, let it out," she whispered, her voice gentle and calm. Ruby cried harder, her tears soaking Kylie's shirt as she clung to her best friend. "I just don't understand why," Ruby sobbed. "I thought he loved me. I thought we had something real." Kylie held her tightly, running a comforting hand through Ruby's hair. "I know, Ruby. I know. And it's not your fault. Sometimes people do terrible things, but that doesn't mean you deserved it." They stayed like that for a long while, Kylie's presence a steady anchor in the storm of Ruby's emotions.

When they arrived at Kylie's apartment, the warm, familiar space felt like a sanctuary compared to whatever Ruby had just endured at the cafe. Kylie quickly set up Netflix. They settled on the couch with a pile of blankets and snacks.

As the first movie began, Kylie made sure Ruby was comfortable, tucking a blanket around her shoulders and handing her a bowl of popcorn. They settled in, the hum of the movie providing a soothing background to their quiet friendship.

By the time the last movie ended, Ruby felt emotionally drained but comforted. She leaned against Kylie, who had fallen asleep with her head resting on the back of the couch. Ruby smiled softly, feeling a profound sense of gratitude for her best friend's presence.

She gently nudged Kylie awake. "Hey, thanks for today. I don't know what I would've done without you."

Kylie yawned and stretched, her eyes still heavy with sleep. "Anytime, Ruby. That's what friends are for."

Ruby's heart swelled with appreciation. They might not have fixed everything, but for now Ruby was okay. It wasn't the end Ruby had envisioned for her relationship with her ex, but it was the beginning of a new chapter in her life one where she wanted to spend more time with her friends.

And in the midst of the heartache, Ruby found a renewed sense of strength, knowing that as long as she had her friends. by her side, she would be just fine.
