I sat at the head of the table, surrounded by my closest friends and allies, discussing the future of our kingdoms. The air in the council chamber was warm with candlelight and the quiet hum of conversation. We were gathered here in the palace of Drakaria—my childhood home, the seat of a throne I ruled for only a brief, tragic time before my death.

It had only been a few short months since I returned—claimed the throne of Ignisfatia, bore the late king's son after ending his reign myself, and then passed each kingdom I had conquered to rulers I trusted. I ruled now not through territory, but through trust, alliances, and the blood that tied us all together.

Technically, I was still queen. But instead of reigning over lands, I now ruled over the kings and queens who led them. Each kingdom would one day be inherited by my children, once their current sovereigns had passed on. This was the future I was building—one of peace, stability, and legacy.

Seated with me were the kings and queens I had chosen—each one entrusted with a kingdom, and each one bound to me by blood, love, or loyalty.

Surok Thornvale, who most called Thorne, was the newly crowned king of the elven kingdom of El'Gorin. He sat with calm dignity, his white hair loosely tied back, violet eyes gleaming with intelligence. His pointed ears marked his high elven lineage, and there was a natural grace to everything he did—even when seated in armor. Thorne had stepped into a role once held by others with arrogance and pride, but he carried it with quiet strength, a man who led not with power, but with wisdom.

Alana Ignisfatia, queen of the dragons, sat across from him with a presence as commanding as any monarch who ever lived. Her long black hair fell in waves over her shoulders, framing her striking blue eyes—cold, calculating, beautiful. Two black horns curved elegantly from her skull, the ridges lined with gold like the trim of her massive black wings folded behind her. She embodied draconic majesty: fierce, proud, unshakable. Yet in her presence there was a hint of softness too—a strength not born of cruelty, but of purpose.

Alexander Darken, my twin brother and the king of Drakaria, leaned back in his chair with that familiar smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. His bright yellow hair was messily combed, untamed as always, and his violet eyes—identical to mine—shone with mischief and sharp intellect. He'd taken my place as ruler of this land without hesitation, not for power, but because he knew I needed him to. He was a mirror to me in more ways than one: the other half of a soul that had seen war, loss, and rebirth... and come out stronger.

James Heartfire, King of the Fairy Realm—and my husband—sat at my right. His black hair was neatly styled, not a strand out of place, though I knew how quickly the wind could tousle it when he took to the skies. One of his eyes was a deep ocean blue, the other a vibrant emerald green—striking and unique, like the man himself. From his back unfurled a pair of crystal-clear butterfly wings, delicate in appearance but strong enough to carry him between kingdoms. His transformation from a broken man into a king had been one of the most beautiful things I had ever witnessed. In every way that mattered, he had grown into someone the fairies could follow... and someone I could lean on.

Of course along with them were our dear friends.

Carlisle lounged in his chair with a flamboyant flair, one leg crossed over the other, a dramatic white wig perched atop his head like a crown of curls. Underneath all that performance was a man with sharp green eyes and an even sharper mind. His natural hair was brown, though few had ever seen it, and he took pride in his appearance the way others might take pride in swords or magic. But beyond his fashion and wit, Carlisle had the rare gift of understanding people—not nobles or generals, but common folk. He was my window into their world, and one of the few whose advice I trusted unconditionally.
