ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ ADVICE IN THE SHOP
━━━━━━━━━━

NELLIE DONOVAN HAD BEEN FOUR DAYS FREE OF TALKING TO EMMETT.

Everyday that she went without him was another one she felt empty in. She wasn't sure why it was hurting her damn but it just was. She could tell you every single time her mind wandered into thoughts of Emmett because every one of them broke her down even further.

She had sleepovers with Jessica and Angela and talked to her dad about what she could but other than that, Nellie felt alone. She felt like nobody truly understood what she was going through and therefore, nobody could really give her the advice she wanted.

As she walked into the shop, her usual smile was nonexistent and her spunk was lost. It was just Paul in the shop considering Jared had to help his dad out for the day and wouldn't be able to work.

Paul was under the hood of a car when his eyes caught sight of the ravenette. He was used to Nellie being loud and saying something almost as soon as she entered the shop. She was a loud-mouth girl who loved getting under his skin but this time she was silent.

Paul then moved to get a better look at the girl. She looked tired and her clothes hung loosely from her form. Her nails were outgrown and her hair was in a messy bun. Whoever this was, it wasn't Paul's Nellie and he was two seconds from killing whoever did this to her.

All thoughts of the car he was working on dropped as he washed his hands off with a rag and eyed the girl. Nellie finally noticed his look and stared him down. The two stayed like that for a good minute before Paul broke the silence.

"What's wrong?"

Nellie looked at him like he was insane as she rolled her eyes and threw her head back. "Nothing, Paul."

He shook his head and walked over to her and took a seat next to her. "Nope. You know that doesn't work on me, Nell. I've known you since you were literally born and something is definitely wrong."

She sighed as she picked her head back up and looked to him. She had told Paul a little bit about Emmett and his face was filled with the same amount of disdain as her father's was so she normally tried not to bring the boy up.

"Emmett and I are having a moment right now." She said as her head drooped down and she looked around the shop. It was a little messier than normal but she just knocked it down to Embry starting to work here recently.

Paul nodded his head as he tried to keep his cool. He was in no way a calm guy but he knew that his anger was not what Nellie needed at the moment. "Okay, what happened?"

"I found out he was keeping a secret from me. Some stuff about his family." She said with a sigh because she knew that in this wording, it didn't sound very bad at all.

Suddenly, Paul's ears pricked up and his head moved to face the girl. Nellie knew about vampires and he couldn't say anything to her about it. He tried to move past it but he was having a hard time with it.

"Alright. Did he explain everything to you? You know, like they do in the movies?"

Nellie shook her head as a small smile fell to her lips at his words. "Yeah, actually. It was very movie like, too. But I told him I needed time from him for a bit. You know, time to think."

Paul nodded his head because he understood her. He too would need time to process if he found out something like that about someone he was dating. He fiddled with his fingers as he looked to the ground.

"Well, that's good, at least. I mean, at least he was willing to explain it to you and didn't try and keep it a secret longer or something."

Nellie nodded her head because it was something she had to agree with. When he said he'd explain, she had a small piece of her thought he was going to try and hide the truth from her. To tell her she was crazy or whatever.

"Yeah, I agree, I just don't know what to do, you know? I'm so conflicted right now." She looked to the older boy for any sign that she was doing the right thing. Or for someone to tell her she was in the wrong.

Paul shook his head and turned to her. "Nell, it's okay. You're still a kid so it's perfectly okay to be confused about what to do. I think that only you can decide what's best for you."

She nodded her head in understanding as she laid her head on his shoulder. Paul had been like a brother to her since they were kids. This wasn't the first and would probably not be the last thing that she came to him for and every single time he always knew what to say that made her mind lift of all the things that had her weighing down.

"Who knew Paul Lahote could be the genius of relationship advice." She said with a smile and it widened when she realized she had made him laugh.

"Yeah, yeah," he said with an eye roll before grabbing her hand and squeezing, "you know you're the only person who gets this from me so you better keep your mouth shut or I'll have to kill you."

Nellie let out a full-blown laugh from that and it made Paul grin because he was the one able to pull it from her. "Oh, for sure. Don't want anyone to know that Paulie boy has a soft side for his chosen sister."

"Wouldn't want that, now would we?"

"Never."

Nellie laughed with Paul and finally lived her day like she normally would because thanks to Paul, she knew what she needed to do. She knew what she needed as Nellie Donovan and it made her smile from the inside and out.

Penelope never liked to lose and challenge and Emmett just became her biggest one.
