Captives are spared or put to the knife
One black bird caws upon seeing the feast
Many are brought low by invisible killers
A great city of man springs up by the great river
Nights breaking with blood for the morning star
Control of the wolf passes to the avenged son
Handsome lake fosters new healing for the world
Eyes emerge from the depths of the whiteness
A griping polar sun forces the eyes behind shelter
Patches of dirt taken from the ruined cloth
A misery awaits on the reservation
Carving tools as precise as wide canyons
Hills bend like ocean waves concealing much
Elders follow out of the released shell onto a virgin beach
Kindling feeds the chug of pleasant smoke
Inching over the hills as a speeding party
Ours are cloaked in the hallow red
Waiting in the shadow of the antelope
Attention is sharper than a lance
