Chapter 6: He Gave Up

"I ain't doing this with y'all anymore." Haruto groaned.

"What?" They said in unison.

Haruto couldn't take it anymore. Every time he saw Jeongwoo and Hana together, a pang of jealousy would pierce his heart.

It had been weeks of playing detective, of hiding in shadows, of witnessing moments that were meant for him. The facade he was putting up was crumbling.

"I can't do this anymore," Haruto declared, his voice firm, his eyes filled with a determination that surprised even himself.

Jihoon, Asahi, and Hyunsuk exchanged worried glances. They knew this was coming, but it still hurt to hear Haruto give up.

"Haru, we're almost there," Asahi tried to reason.

"Almost there? It's been 2 weeks!" Haruto retorted, his voice rising. "I'm tired of pretending, of hiding. I'm tired of seeing him with someone else."

Hyunsuk sighed. "We didn't want this to happen."

"Well, it did," Haruto said, his voice softening slightly. "I'm sorry, guys. I just can't do this anymore."

The three friends sat in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. They knew Haruto was right. The plan was taking a toll on him, and it was starting to show.

"I understand," Jihoon said finally, his voice filled with regret. "We'll stop."

Asahi and Hyunsuk nodded in agreement. As much as they wanted to see their plan through, they couldn't ignore Haruto's pain.

"Thank you," Haruto said, a weight lifting off his shoulders.

The four friends sat in silence for a long moment, the weight of their failed plan hanging heavy in the air.

They had started this with such high hopes, but now, as they looked at each other, they realized that love couldn't be forced. It had to happen naturally.
And maybe, just maybe, Haruto and Jeongwoo's story was meant to unfold in a different way.

"So..." Jihoon started. "What now? You still have three and a half weeks before summer vacation ends."

Haruto buried his face on his pillows. "I can't believe I spent almost all summer spying on him."

"Speaking of that, aren't you supposed to hangout with him all vacation?" Hyunsuk asked, leaning on the side of Haruto's bed.

"Yeah," Haruto faced him. "We planned to but Hana came and we just kind of ditched the plan, I guess.."

"Why not ask him to hangout?" Asahi suggested.

"I did before you surprised me that day and I also tried once when we still had this spying agenda going. But, he said unexpected things came up."

"Well... that's just sad." Jihoon muttered.

"Yah!" Hyunsuk faced Jihoon, annoyed. "Can you put your phone in silence for a while? Now isn't the right time."

"Me?" Jihoon pointed at himself. "My phone's dead, remember? I even borrowed your charger."

Hyunsuk raised an eyebrow. "Then who?"

"Don't look at me." Asahi muttered, slowly pointing in Haruto's direction.

"What?" Haruto whispered, his three friends staring at him.

"Someone messaged you."

Haruto made an 'Ohh' expression and reached for his phone.

He didn't expect any calls or messages from anyone, especially this year's summer vacation since his best friend is also busy.

But the moment he unlocked his phone, he felt as if those sad days and nights were nothing compared to this feeling.

Haruto's eyes widened as he froze.
"Well who is it?" Jihoon asked.

"Ruto?" Hyunsuk said, concerned at his friend's state.

Haruto looked at them and showed his phone screen, making them all shocked.
