The night air was cool and slightly crisp, the sound of crickets chirping filling the air as Beomgyu walked through the park.
He was alone, his hands shoved into the pockets of his hoodie, the hood pulled up over his head.
As usual, he was heading back to his dorm after a late-night cram session in the library, and this park served as a shortcut back.
"Hey, Beomgyu!"
Beomgyu stop walking as he heard a voice, his eyes widened as he recognized the mocking tone. Of course it would be Yeonjun.
"What do you want? Can't you just leave me alone for once?" He turned around crossed his arms across his chest, trying to ignore the fact that his heart had skipped a beat upon hearing Yeonjun's voice.
Yeonjun took a step closer, his smirk widening.
"Aw, don't be like that, princess. I just wanted to chat with you for a bit" He leaned against another tree, only a few feet away from Beomgyu now.
"Chat? At night, in a park, while everyone else is asleep? Sounds like a perfect setup for a bad horror movie"Beomgyu raised an eyebrow.
"What can I say? I like a little bit of mystery. Besides, isn't it more intriguing when there's a sense of danger lurking in the shadows?" He chucked, took another step closer, closing the distance between them even more.
"The only danger here is you, you annoying duck!"
Yeonjun stopped right in front of Beomgyu, his smirk turning decidedly more wicked. He reached out a hand and poked Beomgyu on the forehead.
"You're so cute when you try to act all tough, princess. Trying to pretend you don't get flustered every time I get close to you. It's adorable"
"What the hell are you doing here, anyway? Did you really come here just to annoy me?"Beomgyu said as he try to calm down the fluttering feeling in his chest and trying to appear unaffected.
Yeonjun shrugged nonchalantly, leaning against the tree behind him. "Nah, not just to annoy you. I actually have something to talk to you about, princess." He glanced at Beomgyu, his smirk turning more serious now.
"Alright, fine. Talk then"
Yeonjun took a deep breath, his gaze never leaving Beomgyu's face. "Okay, so... I know we have this whole love-hate thing going on between us, and I know I probably annoy you more often than not..."
"That's the understatement of the century"
Yeonjun chuckled again, running a hand through his hair. "Yeah, yeah. I know. But... there's a reason I do it. You might not realize it, but I've always liked getting a reaction out of you, princess."
Beomgyu blinked. "Yeah, well, you're pretty damn good at it. You always know exactly what to say and do to get under my skin"
Yeonjun smiled slightly, taking a step closer. "That's because I've spent a lot of time studying your reactions, Beomgyu. I know what makes you tick, what makes you laugh, what makes you flustered... I practically have a mental playbook for every situation when it comes to pissing you off or making you smile"
Beomgyu felt his cheeks heat up at the mention of Yeonjun studying his reactions.
"Oh, wow. So you've been stalking me, basically?"Beomgyu said, tried to ignore his feelings by rolling his eyes.
Yeonjun raised an eyebrow, his smile widening. "Nah, not stalking. If you call being hyperaware of every expression you make and every word you say and every damn thing you do 'stalking', then sure. Consider it stalking, princess"
Beomgyu huffed, trying and failing to keep the hint of a smile off his face. "You're an idiot, you know that? An irritating, annoying, completely exasperating idiot"
Yeonjun chuckled, clearly relishing the back-and-forth banter between them. "And yet, you're still standing here talking to me. Seems like I haven't completely lost my touch, princess"
Beomgyu grumbled under his breath, torn between wanting to storm off and wanting to continue talking to Yeonjun. "You're insufferable. You're lucky you're cute, or I would've kicked your ass long ago"
Yeonjun's smirk grew even wider at the indirect compliment. "Oh, so you think I'm cute, huh? Nice to know I still have that going for me"
"Shut up. That's not what I meant. I was just saying... objectively, you're not completely unattractive, that's all"Beomgyu blushed, realizing what he'd just said.
"Ah, so you find me 'objectively' attractive, do you?" Yeonjun chuckled again, he took another step closer, closing the distance between them even more.
Beomgyu's cheeks were practically on fire now, but he tried to maintain his composure. "I said 'not unattractive', which is not the same thing as 'attractive'. Get your hearing checked, will you?"
"Oh, I know what you said, princess. But let's be real here. You find me hot, don't you? Admit it" Yeonjun's smile turned smug, enjoying how flustered he was making Beomgyu.
Beomgyu had had enough of this conversation. His heart was racing, his cheeks were flushed, and he felt like he was about to implode with a multitude of emotions.
"Yeonjun, I-I better get back to my dorm. It's getting late"He said as he took a step back.
"Oh...you're leaving already? I thought we were having a nice chat" Yeonjun's smirk faltered slightly, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
"Yeah, well, it's nearly midnight, and I have an early morning class. So... I should go" Beomgyu said and turned to walk away.
Yeonjun standing there and watch Beomgyu walk away without saying a word. He took a deep breath and began to think what was going on in his mind.
To be continued...
