the end of the work week had approached quickly. it was gracie's birthday and spencer was really excited. with help from amanda and angela, he had planned a surprise party with the smosh cast and crew at a speakeasy-style bar down the street. it was the girls' suggestion, as they had brought gracie there before when she first started working at smosh.

the plan was for everyone to leave work, business as usual, but secretly head to the bar instead of going home. an early start for sure, but hey, it's five o'clock somewhere.

amanda and angela would then distract gracie from leaving after she finishes her edits for the day, which they're usually good at doing, so that everyone can get into their places at the bar before they take her there. gracie will think that it's just them going to get celebratory drinks, when in reality it's a whole family affair.

spencer was worried about leaving early and undetected to finish the decorations in time, but he figured he'd cross that bridge when he gets to it. right now, he's standing over his desk and fidgeting with his mouse, turning it over to try and see why it's not connecting to his computer.

her voice snaps him out of his thoughts. "everything okay?"

slightly startled, he whips his head around to meet her eyes. "oh hey! yeah, my mouse randomly stopped working so i'm just trying to figure it out." he waves it around in the air for dramatic effect, then sits back down to use it on his desk and show her that it's currently kaput.

"can i see it?"

"sure."

his hand remains wrapped around the mouse to make any last futile attempts at connection when gracie comes up from behind him. she gently moves his hand out of the way with her own. "sorry. my turn," she giggles and blushes. she giggles and blushes.

without a moment's hesitation, the mouse begins to work as she wiggles it around. they both gasp at the same time and look at each other, mouths agape.

"what the hell?!" he exclaims, grinning.

gracie holds her hands up defensively. "birthday girl magic, i guess..."

spencer replies with a humble pffftt as he takes his mouse back, rolling his eyes and turning to face his computer screen. she rests her hand on the back of his chair and smiles. "i would've thought you'd be better with technology, bud."

he watches her as she ambles away, running into chanse and striking up a conversation. gracie is in a good mood today; she seems to be having a good birthday, and that thought pleases him. something about her makes him wish he could talk to her all the time. her playfulness and his dry humor sing a perfect harmony that he can't get out of his head.
