Sparkheart's eyes were on the roof of her cave again, but this time it felt different. Instead of noticing the cracks and the damp stalagtites, she could see little clumps of moss and insects scuttling about, no doubt thriving on the darkness. Today, her heart felt lighter. Today, her eyes sparkled.
Today, she felt almost as if she had a purpose.
Leaping out of the leaf mound she made her bed in, her claws scuffed the cave floor as she stuck her head out into the wind, enjoying the way it blustered around her spikes. She relished the sting of the sea air in her amber eyes, and then spread her wings to their full extent. Spark dived down like a needle and then levelled out, heading towards the NightWing town where Clearsight had promised to meet her the following day.
She paused to catch a fresh fish on the way (HAHA, fish, you stand no chance against the mighty fisher SPARKHEART! Who is expertly trained in fishing and practically NOTHING else! Ha!) and then managed to find her way to the centre of the Royal Diamond just on time.
Spark loitered by the waterfall in the centre, letting the droplets mist over her scales. She was on the verge of wondering if she could steal some more food when the beating of wings close by started her out of her thoughts. Purple wings. Clearsight smiled at her with bright and sharp eyes.
"Did you bring it?" She asked in hushed tones as soon as Spark had greeted her.
"Myself? Yes, I generally bring myself everywhere." She rolled her eyes. "But yes, I brought your weird mushy mango."
"Great. Now back to my house." Clearsight ushered, soaring into the sky. Spark was left momentarily confused, but she leapt into the air soon after her.
"SECRETIVE, MUCH?" She called after the purple NightWing, who only laughed.
The got to her house, and Spark was amazed to see how different it was to her cave.
Clearsight's house was like... Well, an actual house. A roof! A door! And oh three moons, there were WINDOWS.
"Wow." Sparkheart breathed. "I could get used to this place."
Clearsight directed her through to a room that had the words "Clrsiht's stuy" scrawled on it, though it seemed to be missing a lot of letters. The room was all tables on every side, and on those tables were piles.
And piles.
And piles.
Of scrolls.
"Just... Uh, come in as far as you can, and, don't... Don't touch anything." Clearsight sighed almost apologetically.
"Whatever you say, Clrsiht." Spark smirked.
Clearsight flushed red.
"Okay, you brought the mango?"
Spark reached into her makeshift sort of bag-thing and drew out the half squashed fruit. She was surprised to see that the skin had started to sag and it looked darker than before.
"Remind me why we're so concerned about a mango I dropped on the floor yesterday?" Spark frowned. "You didn't seem worried at all when I mentioned it then."
"I was worried about other things. Now give it here." She took the mango from Sparkheart's claws, then almost immediately dropped it with some sort of a strangled shriek.
Clearsight dived over to her scrolls and started throwing them around randomly, until she found what she was looking for and started to scribble furiously on the parchment.
Sparkheart regarded the mango with disgust and bewilderment as she did so.
"Wow. That is one seriously bad mango."
