❝ let the games begin ❞ㅤ
The quiet hum of the Hogwarts library was a welcome respite from the bustling corridors.
It was in this serene environment that Mazikeen, Abraxas, and Alphard found themselves late one afternoon. Sunlight filtered through the tall windows, casting a warm glow over the ancient tomes and scrolls that lined the shelves.
Mazikeen sat at a table near the back, flipping through a book on advanced spellwork, her mind only half-focused on the words.
She glanced up as Abraxas leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms with a yawn. On the other hand, Alphard was quietly absorbed in a thick volume on Transfiguration, his brow furrowed in concentration.
Finally, Mazikeen closed her book and broke the silence. "I’m going to try out for one the open Chaser positions."
Abraxas, who had been on the verge of nodding off, perked up. "Again?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. There was a hint of skepticism in his tone and a note of support.
Mazikeen nodded resolutely. "Yes, again. There are two positions open, and I know I’m good enough. They can’t ignore me forever."
Alphard looked up from his book, his dark eyes assessing her. "You know they’re going to try to make it difficult for you," he said, his voice calm but tinged with concern. "The older players, especially the ones who’ve been there since our first year, aren’t keen on letting a girl take one of those spots."
Mazikeen met his gaze steadily and replied, "I’m aware. But if they want the best team, they must take the best players. And I intend to prove, again, that that’s me."
"I wouldn’t expect anything less from you, Mazikeen," Alphard chuckled, a lazy smile playing on his lips. "Just be careful out there. You know how they are about their pride— and their twisted idea of tradition."
Mazikeen gave him a small smile. "I’m not going to let their outdated ideas stop me from getting what I want," she said calmly. "I promise you, the day I'm able to compete alongside the both of you for the Slytherin team is the day Slytherin finally wins the house cup."
"Absolutely," Abraxas easily agreed. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "We’ll be there to watch," he added. "And if they try anything unfair, they’ll have us to answer to."
"Thank you," Mazikeen nodded appreciatively, "It’s always good to know I have you both on my side."
The conversation lulled as they returned to their studies, but the determination in Mazikeen’s heart only grew stronger.
