(🥀)═══ CHAPTER FIFTEEN
❝ bested by a girl ❞

The next morning came quickly. Mazikeen awoke to the soft glow of dawn filtering through the dungeon windows, her nerves buzzing with anticipation. She dressed quickly, pulling on her Quidditch robes with practiced ease, and made her way to the pitch.

The chill morning air was crisp, biting at her skin as she stepped onto the field. The other hopefuls were already gathered, some chatting nervously, others stretching and preparing their brooms.

Mazikeen spotted Abraxas and Alphard among them, and they gave her encouraging nods as she approached.

This was it—the moment she had been working on for years.

The memory of her encounter with Tom flickered briefly in her mind, but she pushed it aside. Today wasn’t about him. Today was about proving herself again on the pitch.

Abraxas and Alphard were already dressed in their Slytherin quiditch robes. Though neither of them were participating in the tryouts today, they were ready to hit practice right after the event is held.

"Try not to embarrass them this time?" Abraxas suggested carefully, his tall frame towering over her.

Mazikeen did not respond and Abraxas sighed.

"I rather quite liked the spectacle she made of Rosier's older brother last year," Alphard chimed in, chuckling at the memory. "I whole-heartedly encourage you to make them out for fools."

"Why are you— nevermind," Abraxas groaned and shook his head. "We’ll be watching from the stands, cheering you on. Just remember to focus and keep your cool."

Mazikeen nodded, appreciating their support more than she could express. The three of them had been inseparable since their first year, and knowing they were rooting for her made all the difference.

As the boys turned to head toward the stands, Mazikeen caught sight of the older Rosier, the Slytherin team captain, pacing the field as he prepared for the trials. His sharp eyes scanned the group of hopeful students, sizing them up as he readied himself to lead the tryouts.

"Good luck," Abraxas said over his shoulder, giving her one last encouraging nod before he and Alphard made their way to the stands.
