It was about 3 am when you were woken up from your sleep by noise coming from the other side of the bed. You sat up, turning the light on your bedside table on. You looked at the other side, where Tony was sleeping.

You waited for a moment, noticing the expression on his face, his already closed eyes squeezing into a pained expression. His breathing was heavy, and he kept tossing and turning. He was having a nightmare. As soon as you realized what was happening, you tried to wake him up.

"Tony?" You repeated his name over and over again, slightly shaking him, until he woke up. His eyes were wide as he sat up and took deep breaths."It's okay. You had a bad dream. You're okay." You told him, rubbing his back and placing kisses over his shoulder.

"I..." He looked around the room, panic still evident in his eyes, but you made him look into your eyes as you placed a hand on the side of his face.

"You're okay." You told him. "It's over now."

Tony slightly relaxed into your touch, but you could see he was still thinking about what he was dreaming about.

"Thank you for waking me up." He told you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into a hug, burying his face in your neck. He breathed your scent in as he squeezed you close to himself.

You ran your hand through his hair."Do you want to tell me about it?"You asked, and he shook his head slightly while his face was still buried in your neck. "Okay. What do you say I make us both a cup of tea and we can have a talk?"

"Okay." He said before releasing you.

You went to the kitchen to make two cups of tea. You were only gone for a couple minutes and, when you returned, Tony was still awake and waiting for you, his head resting on your pillow, which you found weird but decided you weren't going to question him about it.

"Here you go." You handed him both cups before you got under the covers as well, when Tony passed you your cup. "It's just how you like it."

"Thank you, sweetheart." He said, placing a quick peck on your lips before he stirred the liquid inside, looking deep in his thoughts.

You gave him a small nudge. "Why don't you take a sip?" You asked and he nodded.

He took a sip of the tea before looking at you again, his gaze meeting yours before his lips curved into a smile."I love you. I don't want to lose you."

"Tony, you're not going to lose me."You said, your eyebrows furrowing in confusion."Why are you- Wait, is this about the dream you had?"

Tony looked away from you, taking another sip of the tea. "Uh... maybe."

"Alright. What's going on?" You asked as gently as you could, setting your cup aside, on the table, before turning towards Tony again.

"What do you mean? Nothing's going on."

"Tony." You took his hand in yours, making him look at you. "You've been having those dreams ever since New York. And you've been locked up in the lab almost the entire time since then. I... I want to help you. Please. Tell me if I can do something about it."

Tony took a couple of deep breaths, thinking about what you just told him before he spoke."It's just that... uh... it's actually about the things I saw when I went through that portal."

You nodded, encouraging him to tell you more about it as you squeezed his hand in yours.

"Nothing's really been the same. I know that you noticed. And I know that I'm acting different. Those things I saw... God... I saw, well... the outer space, but it just makes me think of all of the things that are out there. Gods, aliens and their army... All of the things that exist and we don't even know about them. And it just... it made me think. What happens if they decide to attack us one day? I can't protect you."

"Tony... "

"No. It could happen. And how would I protect you? I need to find a way. That's why I've been locked up in the lab, making new suits and trying to upgrade them. Honey, you're my everything. I can't imagine something happening to you because of me."

"Tony." You stopped him, throwing yourself into his arms as he pulled you to straddle him, your legs on either side of him as he looked up at you while you traced his face with your finger. "Stop thinking that. Nothing is going to happen to me, and especially not because of you. I know that you're afraid of what could happen, but I know that you would protect me if that happens. You're the only person I would trust to do that. I love you and I trust you."

"I love you, too." He said, raising his face towards yours to place a kiss on your lips.

"It's fine, alright? There won't be any attacks. Nobody is going to attack us."You told him, gently massaging his scalp as you looked down at him."I need you to stop thinking about that. Do you want to watch a movie or something? And I could give you a nice massage later." He was about to nod, but he was interrupted by a yawn, making you laugh. "Alright, I guess that's not happening."

"You'll stay here, right? I didn't scare you off?"

"Tony, you could never do that. Of course I'm staying here." You said, going back to your side of the bed. It wasn't long before Tony followed, placing his head on your chest and pulling the covers up.

"Goodnight, honey."

"Goodnight, Tony." You said, running your fingers through his hair and massaging his scalp again to help him fall asleep. It didn't take long. He fell asleep to your gentle kisses and the feeling of your heartbeat under him, knowing you were there, in his arms, and safe.
