Joo Nabi Estate.

The four story modern mansion that was situated comfortably above all other homes in the private neighborhood, overlooking the nearby city.

With specialized armed guards, a titanium-infused iron wrought gate with security cameras stationed every quarter to ensure there wasn't a single blind zone.

A perfectly protected home for a top Don like Jaekyung.

At the moment, the man himself was situated inside a neutral toned office, behind dual monitors on a black stained L-shaped oak desk.

He occupied himself on menial tasks, though something, rather, someone had remained at the back of his mind.

A sudden knock at his door snapped him out of the work trance he'd placed himself in, telling whoever it was to come in.

Entering Yosep, holding a rather thin manila folder with information on the latest person that caught Jaekyung's interest.

"...Well?" Jaekyung raised his brows, his eyes not moving past the screens, "I don't have all day, you know."

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you've taken more than just an interest in these potential shippers, more than you did with Dae-Ho." Yosep mumbled, watching Jaekyung's eyes narrow before quickly relaxing, "But back to more important topics."

"Here's all the information on Kim Dan that I could find, both official and unofficial."

"He was born on the 26th of December, he's currently 29 years old. His parents, Kim Seok and Shin Ha-eun were supposedly neglectful and child services paid a visit to their home one too many times and he ended up being removed from the home at the age of 1. They later died in a car crash, officially ruled accidental."

Jaekyung clicked his tongue, "Unofficially?"

"Word was his parents were financially reckless and borrowed too much money from loan sharks and couldn't pay it off." Yosep solemnly stated, "Assume the loan sharks killed them, but nothing was conclusive and the police dropped the case."

Yosep then brushed his hair back, clearing his throat, "From the ages of 1 to 26, Kim Dan lived with his maternal grandmother, Shin Okja. She worked as a street vender in Gamcheon. They were poor but apparently lived happily."

"Though, she died a year later."

Jaekyung's eyes snapped up at Yosep who stared blankly at him, "The hell?"

"What was the cause?"

"Cancer. Strangely, it was accused that her doctor at the time had performed malpractice, but once again, those charges never stuck as it was let go because Kim Dan couldn't pay nor had the time to continue his claims to the police."

A hum sounded in Jaekyung's throat, not sure how he felt knowing the bad luck this Dan individual had on him like a rain cloud.

"What else?" Jaekyung pushed, finally giving Yosep his attention, only to see the awry look on the man's face, "Don't tell me that's all you can find."

"From 26 to 28, there is not a single paper trail that was made by Kim Dan. Then one day, a day after Choi Heesung's birthday party, the two surfaced together and remained close. Coincidentally right around the same time Heesung's relationship became estranged with his father." Yosep explained, "From that point on, the two have worked with their own startup company, slowly accumulating clientele."

"They may be underdogs, but if they work with you, popularity will skyrocket for them and it may potentially prove to be fruitful for us."

Jaekyung drummed his fingers on his table, unsure of what Yosep had said turned him off from working with Kim Dan or if it had made him even more eager.

It was clear though that Heesung's chestnut haired partner wouldn't be leaving his mind soon.

"Where's Namwook?" Jaekyung inquired, raising a brow.

"He went home early remember? His daughter's ballet recital was at eight." Yosep calmly responded, pulling out his phone, "Would you like me to call him back in?"

"No. Leave him." Jaekyung quickly declined, fake wincing knowing if he did call Namwook in at this time he'd never hear the end of it, "I'll have him see me first thing tomorrow on what should come next."

"Of course," Yosep bowed, gently tossing the folder of Dan's information onto the desk, "Before I take my own leave is there anything else you need?"

Jaekyung shook his head, dismissing Yosep with a wave of the hand, not bothering to watch the man take his exit for the day.

Reaching out, Jaekyung picked up the file and against better judgment he found himself inspecting the pages of Dan's file over and over.

Jaekyung didn't believe in praising his potential or actual enemies, and yet he could feel that small spark in him ignite into something bigger.

"Kim Dan..." He mumbled under his breath, gazing at the latest picture of the man. It'd only been a few hours, but Jaekyung just knew what he was going to do now.

Just to see if Kim Dan was as good as he displayed himself to be.

| Meanwhile |

Currently pacing back and forth inside his living room, Kim Dan was trying to calm his nerves.

Research was everything, and aside from the information given by Heesung and the very little he observed from today's lunch, Joo Jaekyung was a mystery.

He tried the more basic option of internet browsing, but no surprise it gave him an incredibly generic summary of how Jaekyung was an enigma of a business owner and he held many stakes in large name companies that worked globally.

"...If he has connections, why not just have your own shipping unit? Why use someone else?" Dan pondered in his head, stopping in his tracks after accidentally pressing on the images tab.

He should've stopped there, using whatever time he had left to quickly try and fall asleep before he had to wake up at dawn again, but instead his fingers moved without thinking.

Scrolling through the various images of Jaekyung, almost all of which were in business settings or incredibly obscure, candid shots ranging from mid to low quality.

Low quality or not, Dan did his damndest to not ogle some of Jaekyung's more exposed images, in particular showing off his perfect skin and toned complexion.

If Dan wasn't already sure by the way Jaekyung's suit fit him perfectly, then the pictures of him with shorts and his shirt off right outside what he presumed to be a beach home definitely assured him.

"Stop it!" Dan snapped at himself, clearing out the search bar and going the extra step to closing out the tab.

With one long sigh, rubbed his temples, shuffling off to his bedroom to get some sleep and hopefully get his mind off of the Don of Onyx Devil Mafia.
