"Y/n, come on! We're gonna be late for class" your friend panicked as you both ran through the halls.

"Don't worry, I'm never late for class" you replied with a smirk. You both continued to rush to class despite your confidence. You were slightly behind but nevertheless you ran fast. Maybe a little too fast because before you knew it, you had crashed right into someone.

"Ouch," you weren't even entirely sure what had happened, but all you knew was that your stuff lay scattered across the floor with a cute guy in front of you who you recognized as C/n almost immediately.

Your eyes widened a bit in panic, "I'm so sorry, are you okay C/n?" you asked.

He smiled and nodded, "Yeah, don't worry," and he started to help you pick up your stuff. You gave him a small thank you as you also picked up your stuff.

While enjoying the small moment of peace you had completely forgotten about being late, so when the bell rang, you were shocked. At your school the policy was that if you were late you would get a detention. Dumb yet still strictly enforced with no exceptions for a schedule like yours where you were running across the entire campus to get to class everyday.

You sighed after realizing that there was no way out of it and that you were in for an even longer day.

"Damn it, and my class was right there too," you heard C/n curse under his breath. You gave him an apologetic look, feeling as though it was your fault he was late.

"Hey, I'm sorry,  its my fault," you apologized. He looked up immediately into your eyes.

"What? No it isn't." he replied.

"Uh, yeah it kind of is. You do realize I'm the one who ran into you, right?" you reminded.

"I guess that's true..." he rubbed the nape of his neck, sitting in silence for second while he was thinking, "Listen, if you really feel that sorry, there is something you can do for me."

You nodded and eagerly awaited his response wondering what he wanted.

He opened his mouth to speak,"I-" and just like that, boom, interrupted by an insignificant character.

"Mr. C/l/n! Ms. L/n!" a teacher walking down the hall yelled, " Why aren't you two in class?"

"We uh-" you tried to come up with an excuse, but just like before, interrupted.

"Well I don't care. No excuses. Go to class! I'll be seeing the both of you later in detention." the teacher screamed. She was known for having a short tolerance towards breaking rules. Mind you, she was the same woman who dresscoded a kid for wearing the wrong color of red once.

Seeing as there was no point in arguing, you both gave a small wave goodbye to each other. You turned around to walk to class but C/n spoke again.

"Give me your number and be my detention buddy, Y/n. That's what you have to do." he smiled.

Your face lit up as you turned back around and you tried replying.

Get it? Tried

"Oka-"

"CLASS! NOW!" the teacher screamed. Your gorgeous smile faded away as you headed towards your class, thinking of all the bad words you could think of about that teacher. But you definitely weren't in a sour mood though. No teacher could take away your happiness. At least that's what you thought.

All you cared was that you would finally be getting your crush's number after liking him for so long. As the rest of the day passed, you kept looking at the clock to check the time. For once you would actually want to go to detention.

When the bell rang, you rushed to your locker and quickly gathered your things. You were surprised to see that when you closed your locker your detention buddy was right there.

"Ready to go, Y/n?" C/n asked. You nodded yes and walked alongside him to the detention room. You must have felt somewhat nervous because you kept fidgeting with your hands the entire time.

"I'm sure it's not that bad," C/n, taking note of your actions, reassured you.

"Yeah, that's not really what I'm nervous about," you sheepishly responded. Were you really gonna tell him now? That you had liked him for so long? That felt scary to you, what if he said no? You would much rather be friends with him than nothing at all.

You both entered the classroom and chose seats right next to each other, making sure you were far away from that teacher. During most of the hour, you both worked on the piles of homework your teachers had given you, with the occasional whispering to each other about random things.  It wasn't until detention was five minutes to over that you realized C/n asked for your number earlier too.

"Here, my number," you whispered to C/n, passing him a note with your digits. He smiled and was about to take it. I'll let you guess what happened next.

Yep. Insignificant side character that only exists for plot purposes.

"Passing notes during detention! How dare you!" the teacher from before yelled before snatching the note off the desk. "You two are such troublemakers!"

She looked at the clock and turned to you.

"Go home miss L/n! I don't want you two together anymore, and since detention is almost over you can take your leave now," She demanded.

You tried to protest, wanting to give C/n your number, but there was no arguing with this teacher  so you quietly packed your things and left. When you got home you immediately plopped down onto your bed and sighed.

That was your chance and you failed. All because you weren't slick enough. You couldn't get it off your mind no matter what you did that you were so close to your goal. In that exact moment, your phone lit up.

An unknown number texted you, "Hey its C/n"

You got excited, was it really him? The number called you and you picked up.

"Hey," his voice answered.

"Hey," you answered, "How'd you get my number?"

He laughed a little before revealing how, "I can't believe you didn't realize B/f/n was in detention too, I mean, you guys were late together,"

"Oh," you laughed, " I thought she made it to class on time... I guess not,"

After a bit of quiet, he broke the silence, "Hey can I tell you something?"

"Yeah, of course"

"I like you. And I mean I like-like you. A lot."

Your face flushed with red after hearing his words. You said the only thing you remembered to say in the moment, "Really?"

"Yeah,"

"Well, I really like you too, and I have for a while," You did it. You finally told him the truth. Sure your heart was beating out of your chest but it felt so good to finally confess.

"Will you... no...can I be your boyfriend?" he asked with you obviously being oblivious to his flushed face.

"Of course," you smiled.
