"Hey Y/n! Did you text them yet?" you deadpanned at your friend and sighed. Earlier she had gotten your hopes up by saying someone was interested in you. But to your disappointment, she wouldn't tell you who.
"There's no point. Your ass is probably just trying to pull another prank," you said in annoyance.
"No, I'm not! I swear on my life this time I'm being deadass!" she waved her hands in defense. "Fine, whatever," and just like that you found yourself struggling on what on Earth to send to this mystery person.
But fortunately for you, they texted first.
(UNKNOWN): Hey
(UNKNOWN ): I'm apparently not supposed to tell you who I am but I was given this number by one of my friends. He's tryna get us together or something?
(Y/N) : yeah same here
(UNKNOWN) : so we should prolly get to know each other right?
(Y/N) : yeah
(UNKNOWN) : so what do you like
(Y/N) : I like [favorite music artist], [favorite hobbie], and [favorite sport]
(Y/N) : wbu?
(UNKNOWN) : i actually really like [favorite music artist] too
Your eyes widened. This person might actually be someone you're interested in talking with some more.
You texted with them some more. And when I say some more, I mean basically till midnight until you guys said goodnight to each other since you had school in 6 hours.
And for the rest of that week, and the week after that, as well as the week after that, you two had gotten close over text and practically became best friends.
And the funny thing is, neither of you knew the person on the other side of the screen was someone they knew well.
You walked to your designated spot in the cafeteria one day to have lunch with your friends.
"Hey Y/n," C/n greeted as you sat down. "Hey," you gave him a warm smile as you settled down, not noticing the glances between two of your other friends who appeared to be snickering.
G/b/n nudged F/n and she spoke. She cleared her throat, "Ahem," you looked up anticipating what she had to say," So, uh, Y/n? You ever find out who that number was?"
You looked up confused, "What number?" C/n payed more attention to the conversation in front of him.
F/n took notice and smirked at G/b/n. "What do you mean what number? You know, the one I gave you a month ago, the one I was trying to set you up with?"
C/n choked on his drink as he heard that. "Are you okay?" you worriedly looked at him. His cheeks started to turn red as he covered his face with his hand.
"I'm fine," he anxiously told you as he got up from his seat, "I'll, uh, be right back," and he walked away far from the table.
"What was that all about?" You asked, watching as your two friends beside you burst out into laughter. 'Not fair, I wanna laugh too,' you thought.
"Oh nothing," G/b/n patted your back, "You'll find out soon," and with that they burst into laughter again.
Later that week, you finally got a text from that number. You got a little upset that they hadn't been texting you recently and so you were excited to see the number pop up on your screen.
(UNKNOWN) : hey let's finally met each other
(Y/N) : alright. where were you thinking?
(UNKNOWN) : maybe at that new cafe that opened up?
(Y/N) : sounds good
(UNKNOWN) : great its a date
You stared at the last message on your screen for a couple of seconds. What did they mean by that? Your face slightly heated up but you decided to ignore it.
You were gonna go on a blind date with someone.
It sparked your curiosity so much to know who this person was, but you were also at the same time scared out of your mind.
What if they don't like you?
Or even worse...
What if you don't like them?
Nonetheless you went and got ready for your little "date". You made sure you looked presentable, checking the mirror before you left the house. You walked in excitement and dread at the same time, a feeling you weren't sure you exactly liked.
You opened the door to the cafe to find a familiar face waiting.
"C/n? What a coincidence, what are you doing here?" He smiled at you but you could tell he was being serious with what he said next.
"It wasn't a coincidence."
"What do you mean?"
"Y/n, I'm that number,"
Your eyes widened in shock but slowly a smile formed on your face.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"I'm glad it's you and not anyone else," you told him, causing him to look up from the floor and instead straight into your eyes.
His eyes lit up, "Really?"
"Mhmm," you still smiled at him so happily, you felt the butterflies flitter in your stomach.
"So how'd you know it was me then?" you questioned C/n. He looked calm as he was about to answer, but then it finally clicked in your head. "Oh, at lunch," and he nodded.
You talked for a bit more before he finally mustered up the courage to ask you out.
"Y/n, I really like you, and," he smiled as he stared into your eyes, "I want to be yours,"
"I'm definitely okay with that," you laughed yet you were serious in your response and he knee that.
