HORRENDOUS. Absolutely horrendous. That was the only way to describe your performance during the Quirk assessment test. Your Quirk wasn't suited for physical challenges, and while your classmates showcased their abilities with ease, you struggled to keep up. Aizawa's words—his warning—echoed in your mind, haunting you long after the test was over.
The words hung over you like a dark cloud. Thankfully, the day played out as it did in the original story, and no one got expelled, but that didn't change the fact that your performance had been underwhelming at best. You couldn't help but feel the sting of failure as you headed to the cafeteria for lunch.
Lost in your thoughts, you barely noticed the bustling crowd of students around you as you grabbed your lunch tray. The memory of the Quirk assessment weighed heavily on your mind, making the noise of the cafeteria seem distant, like you were underwater. As you scanned the room for a place to sit, your eyes landed on Shinsou.
He was sitting at a table, surrounded by a few people, yet his gaze was firmly fixed on his food, a look of concentration or perhaps avoidance in his eyes. You hadn't spoken to him since the entrance exam. He'd been distant, ignoring your messages and avoiding eye contact whenever you happened to be in the same space. A pang of hurt shot through you, but you pushed it aside.
You let out a soft sigh. Maybe it's better if you just give him some space
You were about to go look for Izuku and the others when your gaze caught Todoroki sitting by himself at a table near the back. His usual calm, stoic expression was even more distant than usual as he quietly ate his lunch. An idea popped into your head, and before you could second-guess it, you made your way over to him, grinning to yourself.
Sliding into the seat across from him, you leaned forward with a bright smile. "Hey, Todoroki!" you chirped, confident and light-hearted.
He looked up at you, one eyebrow raising in mild surprise, his heterochromatic eyes narrowing slightly as if he was trying to figure out your angle. "What do you want?" he asked, his tone flat and completely emotionless.
There was no malice in his voice, just that signature Todoroki deadpan. You smirked, completely unfazed by his cool demeanour. "I just thought I'd keep you company. You looked like you could use some." You took a bite of your lunch, maintaining eye contact as if daring him to argue.
Todoroki stared at you for a moment, his gaze unreadable, before returning to his food. "I'm not lonely," he replied, his tone still cold but without much bite.
