Chevy moved closer enclosing the space between us.

His warm breath from the delicious gumbo swirled down the blouse of my uniform.

I didn't know what he was about to do which made my palms collect sweat at the thought of him doing the unthinkable.

Then help me to! I recalled saying.

As the front door flew open and Dawn walked in with her mouth parted as Chevy and I parted. "Wait! Were you two about to kiss?"

"Dawn!"

"Don't even be playing like that..." I told her.

"What? I walk in and you two are staring into each other souls." She continued with a laugh. "I thought y'all couldn't stand each other."

I stood from the bar stool to put the empty dish and utensil into the sink as Chevy now stood over the sink as if he was about to try again at fixing it.

"Why are you off so early is the real question?" He asked her.

"Lunch break... just in time too you made your world famous gumbo!" She replied before stepping over.

"I told him he needs to come work for us down at Nubia's with that recipe!" I confessed as Dawn nodded while getting her hands clean then scooping up some into a bowl from the large pot.

"There's so much left what to do with it?" She questioned. "That big pot can't fit into the fridge."

"I'll take it to one of my gigs later on and hand it out to the homeless in front of the building." Chevy said which warmed my heart to hear.

"What about my sink?" Dawn asked while leaning over the counter.

"I'll return tomorrow hopefully by then the cabinets I ordered from Amazon arrive." He replied.

"That's what I want to hear." She grinned before grabbing her car keys from her purse and heading to the door. "No, kissing while I'm gone you two!" She teased as I rolled my eyes since my heart was sat on only one man who I had yet to know anything about except his name and number.

Dawn knew that so I don't know why she was joking.

"Need help bringing any of this down those long flight of stairs?" I asked Chevy as he packed to go.

"Nope!" He popped the 'p' and grabbed the large pot from the stove along with his toolbox and work gloves.

"Are you really going to feed the homeless?" I thought out loud.

He laughed and nodded. "You should come by my gig sometimes and hear me sing something?"

"I'll think about that..." I told him as he shrugged then left out leaving me to my very own devices.

I ended up showering and tidying the apartment to the best of my abilities careful not to move anything around too much while listening to Jill Scott from my saved Apple Music playlist.

I got from the shower and wiped the shower fog from the bathroom mirror to brush my teeth. The music was so good I couldn't help but to sing along. 'Living my life like it's golden' I imagined so many scenarios as I combed through my curls.

Me talking to Michael for instance.

Having an actual conversation that confidence followed me into the next day as I spotted him sitting in his same spot with a coffee and dinner plate before him so I went over even accidentally hitting my Mary Jane wearing foot on one of the table legs.

I played it off smoothly continuing my steps towards him.

My heart pounding in my uniform like the drums from that Nick Cannon movie.

"Can I help you to anything else?" I asked with lots of courage that purple dog from Cartoon Network didn't have nothing on me at that moment. "Perhaps some of our newly added desert platters?"

My eyes burned a hole in the side of his face as he stared hard at his phone not once looking up to see who was talking to him.

"No, thank you!" He replied quite harshly.

I dropped my notepad and pen. "Are you sure? I heard it's really good!"

"Yeah, no..."

Living my life like it's golden, right?

I walked off after with my head down as I made my way to the back of the store passing Selina at the cash register who held in her laughter at the whole interaction then going to face Ines and Misha.

"Maybe he's just busy, Gina." Misha said as I handed her the notepad and pen back.

I wasn't even supposed to be waiting tables I was still on dish duties, but Misha being a sweetheart let me wait hers in order to speak to him.

"Wow! He's worst than I thought." Ines grumbled as she gathered freshly made dishes onto a tray to deliver.

"I didn't do anything wrong did I?" I questioned. "I mean besides almost slipping I looked fine, right?"

They both nodded.

"His loss!" Ines said but I wasn't giving up that easily.

I needed him to know how I felt inside.
