the smell of freshly baked bread wafts through the streets as you meanders through the crowd of people, making your mouth water. but you have no time to delight in the heavenly smell as you have to see your best friend, before you leave for a job for a day to Lauphus, a planet rich in medicinal herbs you were looking for. your new patron who hired you specifically asked you to go there the next day itself, and you didn't get any time to see him for nearly a day, so here you are. as you near the apothecary where he occasionally works (you know how he disappers now and then), you realise you are smiling from ear to ear. you enter the cozy apothecary, the familiar smell of deadly poisons and all other sorts of flora eneveloping you, before you hear the sound of him welcoming you.

" hey y/n" Qimir came into view from the cluttered desk he usually worked behind. as usual he is wearing his cloak and loose pants, allowing him free access to waft any bottles at his whim. his dark hair falls loose over his face, strands framing his eyes in a way that made your heart flutter a beat harder than its supposed to be.

"hey qimir" you say as you walk towards him and sit on the wooden stoll where he usually makes his craft " you working on anything new?"

" yep actually, i have been working on a new potion, its from a plant derivative that's supposed to be...." he begans to explain as you zone out and observe him. observing him has been one of you favourite pastime for nearly an year ,as if he is the greatest art ever produced on this plane of existence. his excitement, the ways his hands do these gestures whenever he gets asked about his passion makes you oddly happy. he has been the one constant thing in your tumultuous life after a very long period of going through shitty stuff and you pray to Force that he doesn't get taken away from you, the way everything did.

you meet him an year ago in olega, after leaving all your painful memories behind. a day of wallowing in sadness resulted you getting drunk and before you knew it, you were vomiting on the streets, and you would been left dead for good had Qimir not come to your rescue. he helped you recover and that was the beginning of your friendship. but for the past few months, your heart kept whispering if he was more to you than that . there were times when you wondered he was more to you than just a friend- when he shielded you away from the cold torrents with his hands as your umbrella, when he gave you his only cloak as you were shivering the night you got your first scavenger job, when he playfully brushed his hands against your hair, making your heart go boom boom. your mind may tell you he is just your friend, but the erratic beating of your heart said a different thing. for all the sadness you experienced in your past, its as if the Force send you towards Qimir to balance those sadness with happiness. and you prayed to whoever was listening that you and him would always stay this way - constant and tethered to each other.

"....y/n you are not listening" Qimir's soft voice brings you out of your reverie, as you look towards his slightly hurt and confused face.

"you are right. i wasn't listening to you because i was sad" you sighed

qimir suddenly lurched foward and gently touched your arm in a tender way - a gesture he does when he tries to comfort you.

"what happened?" his voice was laced with concern with a hint of anger. that's strange because he never usually gets angry, not with you anyway.

" its nothing alarming. its just that i have been commissioned to find some rare medicinal plants in Lauphus tomorrow itself. so that means i can't see you for three days" you say as you lay your hand over his ones, assuring him. "but i don't want to do it within such a short time frame as i am afraid i might not find them and the pay is too good to pass the offer"

Qimir chuckles, as you feel his hands relaxing but still not letting go of yours " i thought something bad happened to you. ms. jack of trades that's exactly what you are supposed to do. deliver your patrons what you want, get that money and blow it away on liquor the next day"

you slap his head playfully, as you get up to go home. "i have to get ready for tomorrow. don't want to be stranded and dying alone in a planet surrounded by unknown flora and god knows what else, imagine the reputation i will get posthumously" you joked.

but qimir didn't laugh as you expected. what you didn't expect was him was yanking you back, his previously playful eyes now replaced with a range of emotions you had never seen in them. anger, concern and something else flitted through them as you look at him confused. "y/n be careful. if anything happens to you...i will literally kill you myeslf. i cannot lose you too" he says seriously staring at me. you would have stood there for eternity, being held in his warm hand and being looked upon with eyes brimming with concern hadn't it for the small wind chime announcing the arrival of a customer.

" that's my cue to leave" you say, as you awkwardly extract your arms from his grip and exit the store. you look behind, seeing Qimir with still the seething expression he had , while attending to the customer's needs.

a tug of sadness pull over you as you make your way back to home. you are going to miss him and his erratic yet nerdy talks, even if it is for three days. three days of not seeing someone is nothing; that's something you know and have gone through mutliple times in the past. but three days of not seeing the very person who is the sole reason sometimes you wake up each morning is torture. you had all kinds of jobs - smuggling, scavenging, even being a keep in restaurant, but this has been the farthest you have gone from Olega.

you reach your home, an humble, neat place that meets your requirements- which is not being spotted by any troublesome people, especially Jedi. you wash and change into clean clothes, as your mind still wanders to ghosts of your past and the the uncertainity of your future. you were not a fugitive or running away, yet a part of yourself always felt that way. as if you are ashamed to face others with your true self, that got you expelled from your Jedi training.

as you close your eyes to get some sleep, the face of the person who became your comfort came into view, finally lulling you back into the world of dreams
