Smriti's flat was adorned with a cozy warmth that evening. She had put her heart into decorating the space with soft lighting, fresh flowers, and an inviting aroma of spices. The dinner menu was a blend of thoughtful selections, Smriti heard the other day from Perry how much she enjoyed eating paneer so she made special efforts to make Paneer Butter Masala, Egg Kohlapuri, Veg Biryani, and a fruit cake for dessert, which she had baked with care.

At 5:30 PM, the doorbell rang, and Smriti's heart skipped a beat. She opened the door to find Ellyse, Sophie, and Wareham standing on her doorstep, a bouquet in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other.

"Welcome! Please, come in," Smriti greeted warmly, her smile genuine as she took in the sight of Ellyse Perry. Even in casual wear, Perry radiated a natural elegance that caught Smriti's eye. Smriti noticed the way Perry's attire effortlessly highlighted her grace, and for a moment, their eyes met. Smriti felt a flutter in her chest, captivated by Perry’s effortless beauty.

Ellyse, in turn, couldn’t help but admire Smriti’s appearance. There was something about her warm, inviting demeanor and the sparkle in her eyes that made Smriti look exceptionally beautiful.

They settled on the sofa, and the conversation flowed easily. The evening was filled with laughter and shared stories, each moment making the connection between them stronger. As they enjoyed the starters, the clock inched towards 8:30 PM.

"Guys, you must be starving," Smriti finally said, standing up. "Let's head to the dining table for dinner."

Perry, eyes twinkling with anticipation, licked her lips. “Oh, the starters were so amazing. I can’t wait to taste what’s for dinner.” Smriti's gaze followed Perry’s action, and a sudden, intense desire surged within her. *I want to devour those lips,* Smriti thought, immediately chastising herself. *What the hell Smriti what are you even thinking? She’s just a friend.*

Dinner was served with hot chapatis, buttered to perfection, and the food was met with enthusiastic praise. Sophie exclaimed, “No way, Smriti! I can't believe you cooked all this. It’s phenomenal! Are you sure you didn’t order this from somewhere?”

As Georgia devoured the biryani, Perry continued to shower Smriti with praise, her compliments heartfelt and frequent. Their eyes met once, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The connection between them was palpable, their gazes locked in mutual admiration.

When the dessert was served, Sophie, with a mischievous glint in her eye, suggested, “Smriti, can we head to the terrace? Wareham and I want to smoke.”

Smriti, taken aback, responded, “Oh, I didn’t realize you guys smoked. But it’s fine; you can do it here if you want.”

Sophie’s eyes widened as she exchanged a glance with Perry, silently communicating their plan. “Actually, Perry is allergic to smoke,” Sophie said quickly, “so we’ll be out for only ten minutes. You guys relax.”

Smriti, tried her best to avoid her alone time with Perry purely because of feelings ignited within her. Perry, amused, asked, “So, you don’t enjoy my company or something? You seemed to be avoiding it.”

Smriti felt sorry, a bit embarrassed, replied, “No, Perry, it’s not like that. I just wanted everyone to enjoy their time here.”

Ellyse smiled, reassured by Smriti’s words, and they moved to the balcony. As they settled, Perry cracked a joke, and their laughter filled the space. Smriti, caught up in the joy of the moment, placed her hand gently on Perry’s shoulder.

Perry suddenly stopped laughing, her eyes locked on Smriti’s face. The sight of Smriti’s unguarded happiness was rare and beautiful. Perry admired Smriti’s laughter, noting how her eyes sparkled with joy.

Smriti, noticing Perry’s intense gaze, felt a flutter of warmth. The connection between them deepened as their laughter subsided. They shared a smile, their eyes lingering on each other, both appreciating the beauty of the moment. Perry saw a glimmer of love in Smriti’s brown eyes but also noticed a shadow—a hint of pain that seemed to cloud the warmth.

While Smriti noticed those light blue eyes filled with love locked to her face those eyes were the most beautiful thing she has ever seen, she wished she could see them forever, those beautiful eyes holding a promise to love and to be there forever.

Perry’s curiosity grew as she wondered about the source of the sadness hiding behind Smriti’s loving gaze.
