The bustling night streets were a sight for those who loved to be in crowds and loud places, but it wasn't the same for those who did not. A woman in her mid to late twenties could be seen navigating through the crowd, eager to reach the Bonten headquarters as quickly as possible to drop off a few important papers at Kokonoi's office- something about money that she couldn't bring herself to care about.

Her eyes wandered quickly over each person, observing the perfidious men and women around her. She knew not all of them were, but she couldn't help thinking about the people wasting their time with such deceitful beings.

Taking pity on those whose eyes were blinded by love or those who simply couldn't see through the mask their significant other wore, she brushed those thoughts aside as she made her way to the headquarters.

As she reached her destination, she quickly stepped into the elevator, not wasting any time in the lobby that, while actually decent, struck her as unpleasant to the eye. She couldn't help but think it was ugly. Without hesitation, she pressed the button for the 80th floor. While in the elevator, a simple question echoed in her mind—the same question that always consumed her thoughts the moment she was alone: "Why did I join them?"

Was it because of the high pay she received? Was she so driven by the pursuit of wealth that she abandoned her morals for a criminal organization, all to chase the freedom that money promised?

But where is her freedom? She's working nonstop and barely has time for herself. They're watching her every move—no matter where she is, they already know. She remembers the time she was in Tanzania, Africa, when she received a call from them, ordering her to leave Tanzania and return immediately. She was horrified. How did they know where she was? She had never given them her phone, so there couldn't be a tracker on it. How. Did. They. Know?

Her thoughts were abruptly cut short by the ding of the elevator, signaling that she had reached the 80th floor. She walked slowly toward Kokonoi's office, passing by the offices of all the executives—except for the boss. He had an entire floor to himself.

She didn't know if the other executives were in their offices, nor did she care. All she wanted was to drop off the papers and go home. She lightly knocked on Kokonoi's door and heard a soft "Come in." Gently pushing the door open, she saw his long silver hair and tired eyes. "The papers are done," she said, the words slipping past her lips like a line she had rehearsed countless times.
Kokonoi let out a contented sigh and, pointing with the pen he held, indicated the empty spot on his desk. His black eyes were fixed on the papers he was working on, barely acknowledging her presence. With a wave of his hand, he dismissed her, not looking up and remaining engrossed in his papers. She turned on her heel towards the door and opened it just enough to step out but was stopped by a soft, "Thank you." She froze in her tracks, her back turned to him, and gave a nod in response. "Please rest; it's already late, and I don't want you sleeping at work." She stood there, still, her mouth slightly agape at his words. He rarely said such things, but she appreciated the sentiment and managed a dry "Thank you" in return before leaving.

She stepped into the elevator and noticed Ran Haitani, the older brother of Rindou Haitani, also inside. Ran was wrapped in a long coat that made him appear broader and concealed his suit underneath. She greeted him with a small "Good evening" and pressed the button for the lobby. She felt uncertain in Ran's presence; although he was nice and laid back, he sometimes acted inappropriately despite being her superior. She wasn't surprised or baffled, as he was known within the organization for having a certain reputation with female subordinates.

"Hey," he greeted with a soothing voice, looking down at her, though not judgmentally, it was simply the height difference between them. His violet eyes scanned her from head to toe, noting her jewelry: rings adorned her fingers, necklaces rested on her collarbone, and earrings dangled with her slight movements. "Nice jewelry."

She responded with a dry "Thank you," and he raised his brows at her tone. To her, what was unsettling about him was his keen observation. "Bad mood today? I can help with that."

She side-eyed him and replied quickly, "Let me humbly decline." He was already starting to get on her nerves, though she couldn't afford to show it.

"You sure?" he asked, a hint of persistence in his voice.

"I'm very sure, and I'd like to keep the professionalism between us," she said swiftly, gesturing with her index finger between him and herself.
"And I don't think the boss would be very fond of it," she added, prompting Ran to chuckle. "Of course he wouldn't be; he's always saying that the assistants are off-limits." He ran a hand through his slicked-back, purple hair, and the movement made [Name] catch a whiff of his strong cologne, which made her cringe inwardly. Just how much had he put on?

"Come on, [Name], it can be our little secret," he said, but she waved him off.

"I value my money and would rather not face the boss's wrath."

One good thing about Ran was that he allowed her to be casual with him. If it were someone else, like Sanzu, she would have already faced a scolding or some form of punishment. That leniency was likely why Ran, despite his inappropriate suggestions, was one of her favorites. She would never admit that, though.

"And that's borderline harassment what you're doing now," [Name] said with a huff of amusement, staring straight at the elevator door. Ran chuckled and kept his gaze fixed on the door.

"I'll stop harassing you then, Miss," he said. She raised her brows and grinned at him.

"Miss? That's a new one."

He shrugged and was about to respond when the elevator dinged, indicating they had reached the lobby. "Well, I've got to go. See you," she said, bidding him farewell with a wave. He waved back and headed toward the receptionist in the lobby, likely flirting with her. He had been eyeing her for some time now.
