As I walked down the hallway, I passed by Ran's office. I stopped in my tracks. Now that I was thinking about it, he was the one who called me about the papers for the boss. Fuyuko, or whatever her name is, is Rindou's assistant, and Rindou is Ran's younger brother. Plus, Fuyuko and Ran do sometimes end up in conversations.

Could the two of them have planned this?

I stepped back in front of his office door and knocked. I wasn't sure if he was in his office, elsewhere in the building, or on a mission. A small wave of relief washed over me when I heard him say, "Door's open."

I stepped in, and he looked up from the papers on his desk, a slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "I'm honored to have you visit me. What's up? Though I don't have much time, so be quick."

I straightened my back, hesitating slightly as I wondered if it was really a good idea to question him right now.
"Should I come another time then?" I gestured toward the door, my voice tinged with uncertainty.

"No, don't worry. Say what you have to say," he replied, still smiling that smile he always wore, fake, but convincing.

"Did you and Rindou's assistant talk to each other? Like, did you plan something?" I could've worded it better, but I was too flustered to care.

Ran raised an eyebrow, his eyes scanning my face. If it weren't for the uncertainty in my voice, he probably wouldn't have been able to tell what I was thinking, given my usual stoic expression.

"I talked to her a week ago. Why? Oh, I know why." He raised his eyebrows as if he truly did know the reason.

"You want my attention."

My composure nearly cracked, but I managed to hold it together. My face visibly fell, though.

"What? No." I stated firmly, crossing my arms. "It's because I got in trouble with Mikey. Fuyuko- or something, was in my office and took the papers. She's really putting my 'job' on the line, if you get what I mean. You two do end up in conversations, which is why I'm asking if you had planned it."

Ran's smile faded, replaced by an indifferent, almost cold expression. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. One hand dropped onto the polished wood, while the other hovered near his jaw, his fingers lightly tapping against his chin. His eyes, usually so playful, were now unsettlingly serious as they locked onto mine.

"So, that's what this is about..." His voice was lower, more deliberate, and the playful edge it usually carried was gone. "I wouldn't sabotage you. Annoy you? Sure. But put your life on the line? Not a chance." There was a chilling sincerity in his tone that sent a shiver down my spine.

Even so, I wasn't entirely convinced. Ran was a master at concealing his true intentions, and his calm demeanor could easily mask something darker. "Okay," I said, trying to keep my voice steady,
"Well, I didn't mean to intrude, but thank you."

He nodded, but the intensity in his gaze didn't waver.
"But I think I know why she did it," he continued, his voice carrying an ominous undercurrent. "She's probably trying to work her way up, get Mikey's attention. It's only an assumption, though."

I narrowed my eyes slightly, suspicion creeping in. "How do you know?"

Ran's lips twitched into a faint, humorless smile. "I observe people, their habits, the way they talk when Mikey is around, how they move. I have eyes, you know." His lilac eyes bore into me, and I felt a chill that I couldn't shake. His gaze was far too knowing, far too calculated.

I nodded, turning towards the door, hoping the conversation was over.

But just as I was about to leave, his voice halted me in my tracks.
