Just like any other Wednesday, Jake was walking around the city's shopping district with his friends Trixie and Spud. Today, the trio decided to check out the new pawn shop that had just opened a few days ago, interested in seeing what it had to offer. After browsing through a lot of what Jake called 'garbage', they found something that caught their eyes attention, something that looked completely out of place among all the 'garbage' next to it.
"Looks like some sort of an amulet," Spud noted.
"Yeah, but what is it doing here?" Jake asked, wondering.
"Maybe you should buy it and let Fu Dog take a look, to make sure it wasn't stolen from some fairy," Trixie suggested.
"You're right, I have a bad feeling about leaving it here," Jake agreed.
Even the store operator couldn't tell them where this amulet came from or what exactly it was, making them even more suspicious.
After they arrived back at Grandpa's shop, the trio quickly told Fu about their finding, handing him the emerald green shining amulet.
"Eh, guys, please don't tell me you touched this thing for long!" Fu Dog exclaimed upon realizing what amulet this was, he himself quickly putting the amulet out of his paws on to the floor.
"No, I kept it in my backpack," Jake explained, "Why? Is there something dangerous about it?"
"Good! Because this amulet has mind controlling capabilities. When worn by a person, the person becomes susceptible to whatever other people want them to do! Just imagine what the huntsman could've made you do if you'd worn this!" Fu explained worriedly.
"Well, that's creepy," Spud commented.
"Yeah...I guess so," Jake agreed, but something inside him told him he could put this amulet to good use, he just couldn't figure out what it was yet.
Since his mind was telling him so strongly that he would have a very good use case for the amulet, he just couldn't resist secretly taking it home, trying to touch it as little as possible.
With all of his attempts to figure out what he wanted to do with it, he completely forgot that Fred Nerk was still chilling in his room waiting for Jake to get back from the pawn shop, which he realized when he hastily opened the door to his room and saw Fred lying on his bed.
"Hey Jake, you're back! Have you found something interesting? Probably not, right? It's just a pawn shop after all," Fred energetically asked Jake.
"Eh..." The voice inside Jake's head told him to keep the mind controlling part a secret, whilst his lower parts begged him to use it on Fred, "Well...Actually I did find something intere...beautiful, and I decided it would be a great gift for you, to represent our friendship and thank you for the awesome time last night," Jake claimed, concealing his true plan.
"Really? You don't need to do that, I enjoyed last night just as much as you did, and you let me stay here until the Dragon Council unbans me from my duties after all. So, you deserve it more than I do!" Fred remarked, looking into Jake's eyes.
