(Hmm..?) I suddenly hear footsteps. As I raises my face .. the nurse who always does my checkup every day comes out into courtyard. "Oh!" Sayaka also notices and hurriedly distances herself with a red face. "Oh!" As she does that, the nurse notices me .. "Good afternoon, Mr. Natsume. Ms. Shimono." She came to the courtyard and greets both of us. "G-Good afternoon."Sayaka greets her back. "Are you taking a stroll today?" She ask "Huh? Yes. We are." I tell her. "A little is okay, but .. don't take too long, okay? I'll go back to my room in a bit, don't worry." She told us "I understand." I answer her "Let's back after just a little more." Sayaka said to her "yeah. .. .. oh!" For some reason, the nurse ---- suddenly has a sparkle in her eyes. "That's right! Ms. Shimono. I wanted to tell you about something." She said to her "what is it?" She ask the nurse "Heh. The truth is .. recently you've become a rumors at this hospital." She said. "Huh?" Sayaka open-wide her eyes. (R-Rumor ..?) "What do you mean .. rumor..?" As she asks, the nurse asnwer happily. "Ms. Shimono, you're very attentitive .. I got just a little of your support during the checkup, right? Everybody says that skill is amazing." She told Sayaka "Huh!?" (S-so that's it!)This is the first time I've heard of it during my stay. "N-no, no way! I haven't done anything that so great."Sayaka's face is redding in embarrassment. But .. I also feel that Sayaka's nursing is amazing, (and the hospital staff think the same, too) A few days after that happening ..
It seems like Sayaka isn't coming to visit today, so I'm alone in my sickroom. Finally, my usual checkup time comes around. "I'm coming in, Natsume." The doctor said "Huh, doctor!" I'm so suprised when he coming in my sickroom. "I'll be supervising today's checkup, pleased to meet you." He said while we greet atbeach other "understood. Pleased to meet you."
Then the doctor looks around the room as though looking for someone."oh .. did your girlfriend not come to visit today?" He ask about Sayaka "Huh. No. It seems she had business today." I tell him. " I see.. that's a shame. I wanted to try and met the rumored Ms. Shimono once." It seems the rumors about Sayaka have reached even the doctors in this hospital. "From what I hear .. Ms. Shimono is really suited to nursing." He said "that's right. The other nurses all say so, too." She also said too "D-Do they..?" Somehow .. hearing them praise Sayaka makes me as happy as if it were me. Then the nurse suddenly looks lonely .. "But ..what a pity. When she can do such great nursing .. that she gave up on her dream .." (How .. doea she knows Sayaka gave up on her dream ..?)
"U-umm .." I try to ask the nurse "Hmm? What is it?" She looks at me "why do you know that, that she gave up on her dream." When I asking the nurse narrowing her eyes, remebering something. "Ms. Shimono, has come to the hospital many times? We got to be friends when we saw each other. Just like earlier, when we were chatting .. she spoke a little about her dream." She told me "D-Did she ..?" I ask her "But .. Ms. Shimono .. was saying she gave up on her dream of nursing, but she somehow had a really sad face. I wonder if .. she hasn't completely given up her nursing dream..?" (Sayaka hasn't ..) As I stiffen in suprised, the nurse continues, worried. "Ms. Shimono .. why did she give up in the first place..? Mr. Natsume, have you heard anything from her?" As I suddenly at loss for words, the nurse waves her hand apologethically .. "oh .. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry. You don't havebto talk about it." I spoke "No .. " This nurse seems to be worrying about Sayaka the same way I am. So, I decided to try talking about it just a bit.
"Sayaka .. seemed to have really difficult nurse training .. supporting patients and so forth .." I told the nurse "patients?" As I say that, the nurse cocks her head in wonder .. "but .. when she carried you to your wheelchair earlier, she did it well, didn't she?" Hearing this, I remembering ..
. . . . . . .
"Alright then, Mr. Natsume. I'll be tranafer you from your bed to the wheelchair, alright?" And Sayaka "umm.. may I help out, too?" And the nurse let her help out "Hmm, that's right. Can I ask it of you?" She said to Sayaka and answer it "okay!" They moved me to the wheelchair and I'm so suprisingly easily .. (huh? Thinking of it .. when Sayaka was going to training.. didn't she struggle increadibly hard to move a patient to a wheelchair? W-when did you .. get so good at this..?)
. . . . . . .
"I was wondering about it, too. Thinking 'where did she get so good at this.'" The nurse thinks a bit, and murmurs "perhaps, at that time, Ms. Shimono .. could do it easily because she was thinking of you, Mr. Natsume." The nurse said "Huh! What does that mean ..?" I asked the nurse. "I'm sure that was Ms. Shimono's real strength. And during, she couldn't use her full strength because of stress and anxienty. But, for your sake, Mr. Natsume, she can surely shows her full strength." That's what the nurse just tell me. Sayaka's figure floats through my head .. (Sayaka..) perhaps, Sayaka herself might have been thinking that, too. Something like "even so though I can really do it this well.." But in front of me paid attention, and shut out her deaire not to give up on her dreams! .. Hearing the words solidifies inside me. I feel like I've finally found the words, to tell Sayaka. (After all .. after all, Sayaka .. should aim to be a nurse!)
