The dust began to settle, revealing the aftermath of the ferocious clash. Supergirl hovered just above the ground, her eyes wide with worry as she strained to see through the thinning cloud. Her voice, barely more than a whisper, carried the weight of her concern. "Lightning..."
Dreamer, standing nearby, glanced at Supergirl, a flicker of something unreadable crossing her face. Harley noticed the exchange, her sharp eyes catching the subtle tension. Leaning closer to Dreamer, she whispered with a mischievous grin, "Looks like somebody's a little more invested in Sparky than she lets on, huh?"
Before Dreamer could respond, Batman's voice cut through the silence, firm and commanding. "Harley, quit instigating. Focus on the situation."
As the last of the dust settled, the battlefield came into full view. Lightning was on one knee, his chest heaving as he caught his breath. His aura still flickered around him, though it had dimmed slightly. Opposite him, Superman lay on the ground, slowly pushing himself up, his face etched with determination.
Superman wiped a smear of dirt from his lip and looked at Lightning with a steady gaze. "It's gonna take a lot more than that... to take me out."
Both Lightning and Dreamer stared in surprise, their expressions mirroring each other. It was as if the sheer resilience of Superman had momentarily thrown them off balance. But Supergirl and Batman remained unshaken, their faces betraying no surprise.
"Are you freaking serious." Lightning said as his frustration was etched in his voice. "I put everything into that."
Supergirl shook her head, her voice tinged with urgency. "I need to stop this fight. If Lightning keeps pushing himself, he might really get himself killed."
Dreamer's response was quick, her voice edged with concern. "Or Superman could get killed." Supergirl raised her eyebrows.
Harley chuckled, unable to resist the jab. "You're really down bad for him, aren't you, Dreamer?" She goes to whisper in Dreamer ears again. "If you're trying to be subtle about whatever's going on between you two, you might wanna stop taking his side all the time."
Dreamer shot her a sharp look and pulled away from her. "We're just friends, Harley. There's nothing more to it, so drop it and stop making something out of nothing."
Harley smirked, but Supergirl wasn't convinced. Her frustration evident as she snapped, "No, Harley's right! You're hiding something, Dreamer. What aren't you telling me?" Supergirl voice layered with slight pain.
Before the argument could escalate, Batman intervened, his voice cutting through the tension like a knife. "Enough. You girls are acting like children. This isn't the time for relationship drama. Focus on what's happening."
Lightning began to move, slowly rising to his feet. His eyes locked onto Superman, who was now fully upright and ready for whatever came next. Lightning started circling Superman, his steps deliberate and measured.
"I was saving this for a real universal threat," Lightning said, his voice carrying a dangerous edge. "But screw it, don't hold back now Clark, you might die."
Superman's brow furrowed, his eyes narrowing as he tried to read Lightning's intentions. "What are you spewing on about? you can barely scratch me let alone hurt me."
Suddenly, the air around them shifted—an oppressive force began to build, drawing everyone's attention to Lightning as the very ground trembled beneath their feet. The red aura surrounding him flared wildly, thrashing like a storm about to break loose. The intensity of the energy pulled at the sky, drawing dark clouds into a spiral overhead. The pressure was unbearable; Batman, Dreamer, and Harley were forced to their knees, the air knocked from their lungs.
