The canteen was chattering as the students gathered for their lunch break. Ayush, seated at his usual table, couldn't help but glance towards the entrance, his heart pounding with anticipation. Kiara was finally here.
She had been running late due to an unexpected science assignment from Mr. Kanbidiya, but the wait had only heightened Ayush's excitement. As soon as she stepped into the canteen, relief washed over him.
"Kiara!" Sanya exclaimed, rushing over to greet her. "Where have you been? We were all worried."
"Sorry, guys," Kiara apologized, her cheeks flushed. "Mr. Kanbidiya gave us a last-minute assignment."
"No worries," Maya assured her. "We're just glad you're here."
Aadhit and Tanmay couldn't resist teasing Ayush. "Looks like someone's missed their partner in crime," Aadhit said, nudging him.
Ayush rolled his eyes, but a smile crept onto his face as he met Kiara's gaze and sat at a different table. She blushed, and their eyes locked for a moment.
After a few moments of animated conversation with their friends, Kiara excused herself and made her way over to Ayush's table. He could barely contain his grin as she approached, the noise of the canteen fading into the background.
"Mind if I join you?" Kiara asked, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of curiosity and mischief.
"Not at all," Ayush said, motioning to the empty seat beside him. "I was hoping you would."
Kiara slid into the chair, and for a moment, they both sat in comfortable silence, the chatter around them seeming distant.
"So," Kiara said, breaking the silence with a playful tone, "since we're finally alone, do you want to play a game? How about Twenty Questions?"
Ayush's eyes lit up. "Sure, that sounds fun. You start."
Kiara considered for a moment then grinned. "Alright, what's your favorite place you've ever visited?"
Ayush leaned back, his face lighting up with the memory. "That would be the small village in Himachal Pradesh where my family used to go for summer vacations. It's peaceful and surrounded by mountains. I love the quiet and the fresh air."
