CHAPTER 1: Weird feelings

NADIA's POV

2021

I slowly closed my eyes and then took a deep breath. The gentle breeze of the morning summer air really calms me everytime. If it's possible, I would stay in this place forever but I knew that I had to leave it sooner or later.

I sighed and then opened my eyes. I stared at the calm sea before me. I'm currently at my family's private island in the Bahamas. Well, this place has always been my favorite getaway ever since I was old enough to appreciate nature's beauty.

Beautiful scenery, fresh air, relaxing and quiet environment. Everything about this place helped me a lot to continue fighting towards recovery. I really thought that I wouldn't have the chance to live normally because of all the hardships that I've been through these past few years.

All the hope and faith in me repeatedly got shattered as my condition didn't improve for the first two years. Doctors kept on giving me false hope and it became so hard for me to believe that I still had another chance to live normally again.

But something happened that gave me the will and fighting-spirit to fight.

I was about to stand up when someone spoke from behind me.

"You're here again. You really love staring at the sea." My eyes widened as excitement surged within me. I turned my head and saw my father.

"Dad!" I stood up and then rushed to him for a hug. He chuckled, hugged me back and then kissed my forehead.

"Did you miss me?" I pursed my lips.

"Of course, I did. You haven't visited me here for two months already." I pulled away from him and then crossed my arms across my chest. "I just hope that you have a valid reason for forgetting about me for two months."

"Hey, I didn't forget about my only princess. I've been calling you, right?" Now, he sounded worried which made me smile.

"I was just kidding, daddy. Of course, I know that you have a lot of things to do, especially at work." We sat on the couch. We're at the balcony. Then, I noticed him looking at me intently.

"What's with the staring?" I asked while chuckling and he smiled.

"Nothing. Until now, I still can't believe that you're okay now. It has been four years since that day. I really thought that you would leave us that day, but thankfully, you fought for us. Now, you're back to your old self again; the old Nadia that I used to know, but healthier and more energetic than ever."

"And I should thank you and Brey because you did everything for me until I finally recovered. Now, my body is stronger than ever. I can finally run and dance to my heart's content which I couldn't do for more than four years.

"But sometimes, I can't help but to ask why God spared me. According to your story, I was the worst. I guess, the saying that 'bad grasses live longer' is true." I uttered the last sentence with an almost inaudible voice.

Yes, I can't remember everything that happened in the past but my family told me everything. Three years ago, when I finally had the strength to ask them about what happened, they were very honest with me.

Brey didn't want to tell me everything at first because of my condition but I begged him not to keep any secret from me. But sometimes, I couldn't help but to wish that I shouldn't've asked about what really happened because it affected me to the core that when I felt a little bit better from all my injuries, I decided to be transferred here in the Bahamas to stay here until I recover.
