If anyone thought I was going to give in to Jason Reynolds' offer, they were dead wrong

If anyone thought I was going to give in to Jason Reynolds' offer, they were dead wrong. I wasn't about to sell my body, no matter how desperate things got. But that didn't mean I wasn't up against a wall.

I stayed up late, night after night, scouring the internet for any decent-paying job that could save me. But all I found were dead ends-jobs that were either too dangerous or required qualifications I didn't have. My cooking skills were about the only thing I had going for me, but even those weren't enough to land anything worthwhile.

I was about to give up when something caught my eye: a job listing for the Caesar Mansion. Was this some kind of joke?

Caesar, as in Ryan Levi Caesar, the well-known CEO who was practically a legend in the business world. Aiden used to talk about him all the time, dreaming of one day becoming as successful as Caesar. Instead, Aiden had ended up drowning in debt, leaving me to clean up the mess.

And here was the twist-Caesar wasn't hiring an assistant or some high-profile executive. No, they were hiring servants. The job was a far cry from glamorous, but the salary was triple what I used to make even as a chef. I could hardly believe it, and I knew the competition would be fierce. This wasn't just any job-it was a lifeline, and I wasn't the only one who would see it that way.

Still, what choice did I have? I had to try, even if my chances were slim. Hope was a dangerous thing, but it was all I had left. And I did have the necessary skills and experience. Cooking, cleaning, managing a household-it wasn't exactly what I'd dreamed of, but I could do it. I had to.

Taking a deep breath, I clicked on the application link and started filling out the form. My hands trembled slightly as I typed in my details, but I forced myself to stay focused. This was it. My last shot.

As I hit "Submit," I felt a strange mix of anxiety and determination wash over me. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew one thing: I wasn't going down without a fight.

o, how are things going?" Willow asked, her voice soft and familiar on the other end of the line. I sighed, sitting up from my bed, trying to gather my thoughts.

"Everything's fine," I lied, forcing a smile even though she couldn't see it. The truth was, things were anything but fine, but the last thing I wanted was to dump more of my problems on Willow, especially when she had her own grief to deal with.

"Angelica, you can be open with me, you know that," Willow said gently. There was a pause, and I could hear her shifting on the other end of the line. "Plus... I wanted to tell you something."

My curiosity piqued as I raised an eyebrow, glancing at the phone screen on my nightstand. "What is it?"

There was a brief silence, and then she whispered, "I'm pregnant."

For a moment, I was speechless. The news hit me like a bolt out of the blue, and excitement began to bubble up inside me, mixed with a deep, unexpected sadness. "What? Now? With Aiden? I'm going to be an aunt?" I stammered, my mind racing to process it all.
