I was literally just second before losing my job, just minutes for real. I end up storming out his office practically forcing my legs to walk out ether before the jerk had a hand mark on his face.
He was officially my number one priority to avoid, but now I was calming down I started feeling scared. I screwed up, just for my fucking ego.
And if I lose this job, debts, and really didn't wanna go to the second path with this. But I was too damn angry to go back and apologize, not now, not when I'm dead.
Ugh...thinking of this, "Why was I even born in a middle class family??" I always asked that question. No I was selfish, but if dad had money and didn't take dangerous job with mom, we wouldn't be here, at least Aiden too.
But Aiden responds would always be, "To change the fate." I missed him, I wish I could let all my pent up tears on his shoulder, but rest in peace.
The kitchen was filled with the sound of clinking cups and the hushed banter of Kira and Hazel, who were determined to pull me out of my funk.
"I'm telling you, Kira, she needs chamomile. Calms the nerves," Hazel insisted, waving a teabag in my direction like it was a magic wand.
"Chamomile? Really? She needs something stronger, like a shot of whiskey. But since we're sticking to tea, how about some peppermint?" Kira retorted, rolling her eyes.
"Guys, I'm not dying," I muttered, slumped over the table, my face buried in my arms. But they weren't having it.
"No, but you look like you just saw a ghost-or worse, the inside of Mr. Caesar's soul," Hazel quipped, patting my back with just enough force to knock some sense into me.
"I'm fine. Just...you know, almost got myself fired because I couldn't keep my big mouth shut," I grumbled, lifting my head slightly to see Kira pouring the tea with a look of pure concentration.
"Look, you went toe-to-toe with the guy. That's more than most of us have ever done," Kira said, sliding a cup toward me. "Now, drink this before I dump it on your head."
I managed a small smile, wrapping my hands around the warm cup. "Thanks, guys. But honestly, I don't think tea's gonna fix this one."
Hazel plopped down next to me, her expression softening. "You just need to take a breath. Mr. Caesar isn't going to fire you...yet."
"Yeah, well, he didn't exactly look pleased. I think he was two seconds away from tossing me out the window," I said, taking a sip. The warmth did help, a little.
Kira leaned in, her voice low. "Listen, Angelica. You're not the first person to snap at him. Heck, you're probably not even in the top ten. The guy's like a walking iceberg; people crash into him all the time."
I laughed, but it quickly turned into a sigh. "I just...if I lose this job, I'm done. Debts, everything... I can't go through that again."
Kira and Hazel exchanged a glance. "You're not going to lose your job," Kira said firmly. "But you might want to, I don't know, maybe avoid slamming your hands on his desk next time?"
"Yeah, yeah. Lesson learned," I mumbled.
But as the reality of the situation set in, the weight on my chest grew heavier. My thoughts drifted to my family, to the life I wished we could've had if things had been different. If Aiden was still here, he'd know what to say to make me feel better. But all I had were these two goofballs, who were currently arguing over the best way to make tea.
And for now, that was enough.
