Mileena POV:

I sympathized with Cordell after learning about his experiences. As my mother advised, we must be cautious about trusting anyone right away. Years of being a warrior shaped her understanding in that area. Moreover, I am astounded by the fact that the Moon Goddess has gifted me a mate. I'm wondering why she did this? Neither my mother nor I have experienced a good life since we departed from our old pack. I could sense that my mother was suffering more than me, as my father made no attempt to locate us. I'm aware of her longing for him; I can hear her cry on some nights when she thinks I'm asleep.

The sight of her in that state breaks my heart—I pray we can find a resolution soon as our survival in the forest is uncertain. As we proceed through the forest, silence reigns, broken only by the melodic chirping of birds. Walking for hours took a toll on my body, but luckily we discovered a stream. We made our way towards it to get a drink, considering it was a scorching day. Eventually, I ended up jumping into the water. Right before I could relax, a twig snapped and put all three of us on high alert.

"Mileena, I need for you to hide, whatever you don't shift no matter what" My mother says.

"I can assist you in fighting, Mom-."

"Mileena, please listen to me and do as I say. I can't concentrate if I'm worried about your safety.

"What's the problem? Why can't she shift?" Cordell asks.

"Cordell, I'll share everything with you later. Right now is not the appropriate time for discussion. Mileena, please find a place to hide."

I nodded and headed over into the brushes, I could cover myself so no one would see me. Hearing the sounds of footsteps, I immediately looked over to where my mother and Cordell were standing. Five men emerge, and I can tell that a few of them are warriors. The one in the middle had a powerful aura, indicating he was the beta. He seemed to be feared and was the tallest among the five, standing at approximately 6'4" with tan skin, short curly blond hair, and a muscular build. I stayed in place and heard the words he was saying.

He questions, "Who are you and why are you trespassing on our land?"

"We didn't intend to cause any harm, we were just passing through and unaware that we had entered pack territory. If it's alright with you, we'll proceed without any trouble."

"I'm sorry, but I can't comply. You both trespassed and my Alpha will determine your fate."

"I refuse to be treated like a damn criminal because of a mistake when we did nothing wrong. "Back the fuck off and let us go," my mother shouted, using strong language.

"If you don't cooperate, we may have to resort to using force to make you comply."

My mother growls, "Let me tell you something, mutt. I hope you're ready to fight because I'm going to knock you down where you stand."

The wolves growled, and then the man in the center declared, "I'll be the one to assert dominance, you bitch." As he transformed into his light brown wolf, his companions followed suit. My mother transformed into her Lycan form, while Cordell transformed into his panther form.

The brown wolf attacks my mother, but she quickly retaliates with a forceful blow to its face, causing it to stumble to the ground. Cordell intervenes by biting the wolf's tail to stop it from attacking my mother. Cordell swings the wolf around, causing it to whimper, before releasing it and sending it crashing into a tree. The sound of the wolf's painful howl reached my ears. Once more, I witnessed my mother in a fierce battle with the brown wolf, refusing to back down. The advantage of being a warrior, especially a former royal warrior. I have witnessed my mother's victories in countless battles, and it seems she could easily defeat that wolf if she chooses to.

She wants to vent her frustration, but unfortunately the wolf became her target. He will regret underestimating a woman once my mother is finished with him. At the end of the battle, I witnessed my mother preparing to deliver a final blow to the wolf. Unexpectedly, a black and white wolf emerged, gazing up at my mother. I made an effort to get Cordell's attention, but when I looked back, I saw a wolf about to attack my mother.

Instinctively, I shifted into my wolf form and rushed towards the enemy, striking him with such force that he was launched approximately 100 yards away. The intense anger shared between Xyla and me was released through a mighty howl, causing the ground to tremble. All I could perceive was the color red; Xyla and I were hungry for blood. As soon as the wolves laid eyes on me, they were startled and immediately changed back into their human selves. Both my mother and Cordell did the same thing, all on their own. I noticed the sadness in my mother's eyes when she approached me, and it dawned on me that I had made myself an easy target by revealing too much to strangers.

"Don't worry, Mileena, you can shift now, sweetheart."

As I nodded and shifted, I could hear growls. When I turned around, I saw Cordell approaching me with a shirt. I took it and put it on myself, and he also gave one to my mother, who did the same.

The men rose to their feet and confronted us, with the leader asking, "What sort of being are you?"

"It's none of your business; just know that I won't allow anyone harm my daughter."

"Don't worry, there's something unique about your daughter that could be dangerous if others find out. If you come to our pack, you can talk to my Alpha about your daughter; he may have some knowledge to share."

"All you need to know is that we're Lycans, simple as that."

"I sensed something was up when you took me out," he chuckled.

"Never underestimate the power of a woman," my mother says with an eye-roll.

"I agree, you and your wolf definitely put up a good fight."

"Truthfully, it didn't even qualify as a fight because I had the advantage from the beginning."

"Miss, please come with us for your safety. We can provide better protection than wandering in the forest."

"Mother, he's right. We need shelter. Living like this will drive us crazy." I tell her.

Looking at Cordell, my mother inquires, "What are your thoughts, Cordell?"

"I'm 100% supportive of both of you, regardless of your opinions."

"Unfortunately, we're left with no option but to clarify one thing - if you or your men attempt anything humorous, I'll inflict such severe damage that you won't be recognizable. Is that understood?"

In perfect unison, they respond with "Yes ma'am."

With our bags in hand, we obediently follow the men, desperately hoping and praying that they will ensure our safety and protect us from harm.
