A/N: Hi! Thanks so much for choosing to even take a look at this story, means a lot to me! "Forbidden Fruit" will be updated a couple of chapters at a time. This story deals with mature themes, I'll put TW's if necessary, and there will be explicit sexual scenes. This is my first story, which has an age-gap romance, and I hope I do it justice!
Let's get into it :)
My life currently looks nothing like how I had expected it to.
If you had told me even three months ago that I would be starting a new job behind a desk rather than on a hospital floor, I would've laughed in your face.
But here I was at Hollis Financial Corporation, behind a desk.
I was three days into my new job, and within the first two days the woman who trained me, Francine, said that I had fully gotten a hang of what to do on the computers, and I sounded like a professional on the phone.
I wondered if she just didn't feel like training a new person, however, at the same time, I felt like I knew what I was doing already.
It wasn't all that difficult. I answered phones, greeted people when they came into the office, printed, faxed, and mailed documents, and was told I would occasionally offer assistance to some of the higher ups if needed.
"You're doing wonderful, Ashley," Francine had said to me about forty minutes ago, "Do you mind if I go on my hour lunch? I think you can hold down the fort here."
"Sure," I said, "Go ahead. If a situation comes up where I don't know what to do, I'll try and find someone to ask, or I'll just wait until you get back."
"Sounds good, honey," Francine smiled at me, "You're going to do great here."
Francine had to be around my mother's age, in her late 50's, and while she seemed a bit ditzy and absent minded, she also had been very warm and welcoming so far.
I knew that once Francine got back from her lunch break, I would go on mine.
The phone hadn't rung in over a half hour, and there were no documents I had to take care of.
I glanced around to make sure no one was walking up to the lobby area, and I took my phone out of my pocket.
I hadn't been able to text Gabby, the woman I had been seeing, since she sent me a "good morning" text.
I set my phone on the dark wooden oak desk and went to my messages. I smiled to myself when I saw that Gabby had texted me again, this time a couple of hours ago, telling me that she hoped I was having a great day.
I started typing a message back to her when I heard the front doors to the office lobby open. I immediately looked up from my phone to see a woman walking in.
I met her gaze, which looked disdainful.
While the look on her face was anything but happy to see me, I couldn't help but silently admire how she appeared.
Her dark hair was tied back in a bun, and I noticed she had an undercut. She wore a fitted navy-blue suit with sleeves that were purposely folded up and I could see some tattoos peeking from under the sleeves on her arms.
"Hello," I said cheerfully to the woman, and discreetly tried to slide my phone away, "Welcome in, how can I help you?"
She paused and looked right at me, "I'm headed up to my office. Your phone shouldn't be out."
I immediately felt my face heat up, "I'm sorry about that."
"Make sure it's put away, alright?" she said to me in an unamused tone, and with one final glance, she walked past the front desk and back to the main offices.
