My heart was pounding, and I tried to be inconspicuous as I pulled up the company directory on my laptop, with each person's phone extension on it.
Who the fuck is Lisa?
I went to the accounting department, and immediately saw the name "Lisa Amaro".
I tried to be even more inconspicuous as I pulled my phone out and looked up "Lisa Amaro" on Facebook.
I found her immediately, knowing it was her because Hollis was listed as her place of employment.
Her profile picture was a photo of her at a restaurant, a glass of wine on the table in front of her. Lisa had honey blonde hair, glasses, and...looked to be closer to Kori's age. She was definitely not in her 20's, or even early 30's.
I couldn't picture seeing her around the building or at the events.
I stared at the photo on my phone, looking down.
It would make more sense if Kori was into this woman than into me.
Am I even going to ask her about this?
Fuck.
I need to.
I didn't see Kori all day, she must have been busy.
I tried to find an excuse to go to Kori's office all day, but I was too apprehensive. The thought of Kori and Lisa pretty much ruined my whole day.
At the end of the day, Grace came up to me.
"Are you okay, Ashley? You've been quiet today," she asked me.
"Just tired from Thanksgiving break and all," I said to Grace, forcing a smile, "Thanks for asking."
"Of course, just wanted to make sure you were alright."
At that moment, I saw Kori walking up to the department, and my heart rate picked up.
She met my gaze and walked right up to Grace and me.
"Hi, Grace. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving with your family in Oregon," Kori said to her.
"It was great, thanks!" Grace said back to Kori, "How was your Thanksgiving?"
"Very nice," Kori said, and she then turned to me, "Ashley, I need a word with you in my office for a moment."
Grace glanced at me, and then said, "I'll see you both tomorrow. Have a great night!"
Grace walked away, and Kori looked at me, and her phone then started vibrating. She looked down, "Ah, I've got to take this. I'll meet you at my office, the door is open."
Kori walked off, answering her phone, and I started to make my way to her office.
I got to her office, and was there by myself for a moment before Kori joined me.
I couldn't help but notice a diploma on her wall, for an MBA degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Of course she's smart.
She must have gotten her MBA after her leaving nursing.
Kori then walked into her office, closed the door behind her, and walked right up to me. I was standing a few feet away from her desk.
"I'm sorry I didn't stop by the department all day," she said to me, "I had meetings on meetings. I...definitely wanted to see you."
Kori's gaze was right on me, and I practically melted under it, almost forgetting about what Grace said about her and Lisa for a moment.
