A/N: This is a concept work of my original plans for 'Yearning'. As you will see, there was a lot that was going to be different. I can confidently say that I am very proud of the work I put into my final product, and I'm very thankful that a certain redheaded Ravenclaw seeker changed everything (Thank you Meg).

Also, I am so sorry.

Sabrina felt her mind blank. "What?"

"I know!" Anne exclaimed, beaming brightly as she hung onto Ominis' arm. "Loads of people have been saying how perfect we are together since we started at Hogwarts, and we've been best friends since the beginning so it makes sense! We confessed our feelings just a few weeks ago, and we decided that we would keep it a surprise from everyone until we got back to school."

Anne was so excited that she failed to see that Sabrina only heard half of what was said. Instead, Sabrina was staring at Ominis hoping, praying, that this was a misunderstanding. Maybe Anne misunderstood his intentions, or he didn't reciprocate the feelings and he hadn't had the heart to tell her yet. Perhaps it was Sebastian's idea of a cruel joke to make Sabrina jealous. God knew that Sebastian had been trying to get her to confess to Ominis for months.

But no.... There stood Ominis smiling happily in the direction of Anne Sallow as she rambled on about their summer and how she confessed to him before he inevitably returned the feelings.

Sabrina felt like she couldn't breathe. "A few weeks ago?" she asked, trying to maintain some composure. She looked towards Sebastian looking for some sort of explanation, and she saw that he was staring back at her, watching her reaction to this news. "Why didn't you say anything?"

Sebastian shrugged. "They wanted to keep it a surprise."

"I see," Sabrina said, feeling another sharp stab in her chest.

"And I know Sebastian is worried about how the Gaunts will react," Anne continued, oblivious to the agony on Sabrina's face. "They have been writing to us all summer trying to get Ominis to come home, and he's denied them every time. And frankly, I don't care what they say. Love is worth fighting for."

Sabrina tried looking towards Ominis and Anne, but she found that she couldn't bring herself to keep eye contact. "I'm happy for you both," she said, recognizing just how hollow her own voice sounded upon deaf ears.

Anne grinned and leaned into Ominis' touch as he wrapped an arm around her waist protectively. "You are very excited, my dear," Ominis told Anne before leaning in to place a small kiss on her lips.

The small move finally broke Sabrina. No, she felt completely shattered, and tears were now threatening to fall as she struggled to breathe. Excusing herself, Sabrina rushed past them without a clear thought or idea as to where she was going. All she knew was that she couldn't stay any longer and watch how in love Ominis Gaunt and Anne Sallow were with each other.

"I'm not really sure what you expected," Natty said the next morning at breakfast. "I told you that you should have confessed sooner."

Poppy glared up from above her goblet. "You could be a little more tact."

"I'm just saying it how it is," Natty said. "Do you want me to lie to her?"

"Can't you see how heartbroken she is? Saying something like that might make it worse."

The girls were all sitting at the Gryffindor table, enjoying breakfast together as they prepared for the first day of class. Natty and Poppy continued arguing, meanwhile Sabrina sat next to Poppy and absentmindedly tore apart a piece of bread without eating a bite. She felt as if she was physically there, but her mind was getting lost again as the events from the day before played again in her head.
