Ever since I can remember, Lila and I have been inseparable. Enjoying conjoined birthday parties, school trips, and hundreds of playdates since we were in diapers, we were destined to be bestfriends.

Being next door neighbors, It wasn't hard to always have my best friend on my side. Whenever anything happened to me, I could turn to that house, and feel better immediately. Now, starting college, that house felt distant.

Although we were still going to the same exact college, I felt like a brick wall was coming between us. Lila, being wealthy, decided to live in an apartment off campus.

Although Lila was with me, I unfortunately had her twin brother, Caleb, also at my college. We weren't the closest pair. Caleb always had a smart mouth, making me angry, and in return I wouldn't favor his behavoir. We were always playing pranks on each other, fighting, and forcing poor Lila to break us up.

This year though, I was hoping it might be different. Grabbing my bag, I felt a sense of worriedness and excitement in my stomach. I had waited 18 years for this moment, but it still felt different. Everybody told me it's supposed to, but I feel like I should've felt ready.

"Sophia? Are you ready to go?" My mom asked me. I scanned her face, and she had a saddening worried expression on her face. My dad appeared next to her, with the same exact face. Leaving my parents behind is one of the hardest things I have to do.

"Yes, I think so.." I anxiously replied as I walked up to my parents. My dad suddenly grabbed me into a huge bear hug, squeezing me like he used to when I was younger. I laughed surprisingly, squeezing back. "Dad!" I shouted, laughing.

"I'm sorry honey. I'm just going to miss you so much." my dad muttered, "It won't be the same without my girl."

"I'm only an hour and a half away, dad. I'll visit whenever I can." I smiled, trying to hold it in. The move wasn't only affecting him.

"We know sweetie, this is just hard on us as parents." My mom said.

"Right. Just know, you can always call or text me." I replied.

"Okay honey. Let's get your things into the car. Your father will pack it up for you. Are you sure you have everything you need?"

"Yes mom, I'm sure. Let me just say goodbye to Olive."

"Okay honey. Just be quick, we have to hit the road soon." My dad added.

"Yes- it'll be very quick. I'll be back in 2 minutes!" I shouted, running into the house.

I scanned my house. I knew this was the last time I'd see it in a while. I felt an aching in the back of my throat. I searched around, looking for my cat. I heard a quiet chirp from underneath a chair, and felt my cat, Olives, fluffy tail swishing past my ankle.

Tears filled my eyes and I bent down to stare underneath the chair and saw my cat. I've had my cat, Olive, since I was 10 years old and It was a very hard goodbye.

"Oh Olive," I sobbed out as I scooped her up into my arms. She squirmed, pressing her paws against my arms and kicking her legs to be released.

My tears dropped onto her fur, and she began licking my fingers. I gave her one last kiss on the forehead, and released her out of my arms. She ran back under the chair, and I picked myself up. I wiped my tears on the back of my hand, and left out of the front door.

"Ready honey?" My mom called out. I walked down our front steps, and to the car. I placed my hand on the door handle, breathing in and out one last time, swinging open the door, and going into the car. I knew then my life was about to change.
