Blinking my eyes open, I looked around. I had been sleeping since yesterday at around 2pm, and it was now 2am.
I realized I had slept for around 12 hours, and it was pitch black. Amara was fast asleep, and Lila was sleeping on the floor next to me.
I almost forgot what had happened, until it all came rushing back to me. Caleb, the crying, everything. I sat up, looking at my phone. I had about 100 missed calls from Caleb, 50 texts from him, and around 20 voicemails.
I quickly popped in my airpods, and listened to a bunch of them. Most of them were him begging me to talk to him so we could work through what happened, but I didn't want to hear it. I quickly texted him how I didn't want to see him for a while after everything that happened, and shut off my phone. Before I shut it off, I saw 3 messages instantly pop up, but I swiped it off, and collapsed back onto my bed. I sighed out, shutting my eyes. I pulled my covers over myself, trying to get back to sleep.
"Sophia?" My eyes flipped open, and I rolled over to Lila and Amara standing over my bed. They were tilting their heads at me.
"Yeah? What happened?" I asked, quickly sitting up incase I forgot something.
"Uhm.. Caleb is at the door." Amara whispered, looking back towards the door. A sudden knock occurred, and I almost jumped.
"Don't you dare let him in. He is not welcome here right now." I hissed, glaring at the door. Lila quickly walked back to the door, opening it wide. Caleb tried running in, but she shoved him back. My eyes widened as me and Caleb made eye contact, and he had a pleading look on his face. Lila quickly began shouting.
"Caleb, don't you fucking try coming back here. You really hurt Sophia, and she needs space. Don't you know how to respect people's boundaries? Seriously, Caleb! Grow the hell up and learn you have consequences to your actions." Lila began to slam the door shut, but Caleb quickly got a word in.
"Sophia, please! I need to-" The door slammed shut. It was dead silent for a few seconds, and we were all looking around the room.
"Well, that was.." Amara muttered.
"Sophia? Are you okay? You look... a little anxious." Lila said, tilting her head to the side.
"Yeah.. I'm fine. Just remembering things. Maybe we should start our day." I tried to make the situation as positive as possible.
"Sophia...I know we've just met this year, but..when Caleb did what he did, and I'm not saying what he did wasn't totally not okay, but why did you react so huge? No offense, I'm just curious." Amara asked quickly. I knew she didn't have bad intentions, and she was seriously concerned and wanted to know how she could help.
"Amara, I'm glad you asked, and why I reacted is a huge part of who I am today. I'm not going to get into details, but I basically had a really abusive toxic ex.. The way he grabbed me caused flashbacks, and I just had a huge reaction." I replied, nodding at her.
"I understand, Sophia. You are so strong. I know this big thing just happened, but I really think like you said we should make the most of today! Do you guys wanna get coffee and discuss plans?" Amara asked, smiling widely. Me and Lila both nodded eagerly.
"Yess I would love to!" Lila grinned, looking at me.
"Same! I'm so excited. Let's get ready to go?" I asked, quickly sitting up. I walked over to my wardrobe, Lila behind me. Amara walked to hers, and began picking out clothing. I gave Lila some of my clothes to borrow, as she had dropped everything to come be with me.
We all quickly changed, and grabbed our bags and keys. We walked down to the parking lot, entering my car. I turned the key to turn it on, and exited the campus. We drove down streets, singing along to the radio and having a fun time. Entering the coffee shop, the smell of coffee and pastries wafted towards me, and I immediately got happier.
Since it was fall, all the coffee shops had their fall seasonal items, which were my favorites. Walking up to the register, I scanned the menu, and quickly placed my order. Once we were all done ordering, we waited off to the side at a table, chatting about what we were going to do.
"So!" Lila asked, "Do you guys want to have a girls day tomorrow? I feel like it would be fun!" She smiled, looking at both of us.
"Yes!" Amara said, eagerly nodding.
"I'm so down!" I agreed. "So, what should we do then?" I asked.
"I think we should go to the beach!" Lila looked around for a look of approval, and we all nodded in agreement.
"That's such a good idea! I haven't been to the beach in so long, so I think it would be fun if we all go together!" Amara agreed. "I love the beach!" She added. I nodded, and kept eating my food and my coffee.
As we all finished up, we threw away our trash and got back into the car, driving home. As we arrived back at Amara and I's dorm, all 3 of us decided that we were going to watch some movies. As I microwaved the popcorn and Amara and Lila began setting up our projector, I opened my phone back up.
The amount of messages from Caleb was astonishing. He sent paragraphs, apology messages, questioning messages, and more. I scrolled through our text logs, feeling horrible. I didn't want him to think I hated him, I just needed space and he didn't understand.
I closed out messages, and set my phone down. As the microwave beeped, I opened it, pulling out a hot bag of steaming, buttery popcorn. I grabbed a giant bowl, opening the bag and dumping it in. Amara and Lila appeared beside me, grabbing for popcorn.
"We finished setting up the projector, do you want to pick the movie?" Lila asked, chewing on popcorn.
"Yeah, sure. What streaming service are we using?" I asked.
"I don't know. Amara just has this random one I've never heard of." Lila looked confused. We all made our way to the center of our dorm, where there was a big carpet. All sitting down in a circle, I looked over at Amara leaning over her computer cross-legged, starting to scroll down the movies listed.
"Guys, this streaming service is soo good! It has every single movie, show, and even unreleased films! It's literally free too and has no ads." Amara smiled, continuing to scroll through the website on her laptop. I looked over at Lila with a horrified look on my face.
"Uhm.. Amara..." I said, putting a hand over my mouth. "You said.. It's free?"
"Yeah! It's so good. My friend put me on and I made an account so I get even more benefits." Amara replied, smiling.
"Amara, you might want to delete the account. I don't think that's a streaming service girl..." Lila said, trying not to laugh.
"Why? It works fine and I've been using it for like, 3 years." Amara shrugged, still scrolling through movies. "Sophia, have you seen any you've liked?" Amara turned back to look at me.
"Amara, I'm just going to say it. The streaming service you're using is most likely an illegal streaming service. I don't know if your friend was trying to sabotage you, but...the way it has every movie and show and even unreleased movies means it's illegal if you're getting it for free. And making an account probably means you downloaded a virus..." I said quickly. Amara's eyes widened, her body whipping back around to face her laptop. She quickly slammed her laptop shut, and there was an awkward silence for a few seconds.
"Wait, really? I've never had any problems though!" She said, breaking the silence. Lila snorted beside me, and started laughing. Suddenly, we were all laughing. When we all calmed down from laughing, Amara spoke up again.
"So...should we use a different streaming service then?" She asked, looking around.
"Y'know what, I think we should go to sleep, we have a beach day ahead of us!" Lila cheered, and we all stood up. Amara powered off the projector, while I placed the popcorn away on a side table. We all changed into our pajamas, and climbed into bed. Lila made a nest on the floor, Amara in her loft, and me in my bed.
As I drifted off to sleep, I thought of how great tomorrow would be, and how I would totally forget about this whole mess with Caleb, and hopefully it would be resolved.
