I swung open the door, and a strange scent filled my nostrils. I looked around, a disgusted look on my face. My dorm was... interesting, to stay the least. My parents behind me ushered me in, and we looked around. My roommate hadn't arrived yet, so I got the first pick of my bed.

"Honey...do you want the loft, or the bed with the desk next to it?" My mother asked, looking around. I also craned my neck to stare around the dorm room, shifting my eyes onto each bed, weighing out what I thought was better.

"Uhm.." I sighed, "I guess the bed with the desk next to it. I don't want to have to get up and down when I'm exhausted, so I'll start setting up." I walked towards the empty mattress, and set my bags on top of the bed.

"Well honey, should we unpack?" My dad asked softly. I turned around, taking a deep breath.

"Yeah, that would be great. Let's just get it done quickly, I really want to get settled as soon as possible." My parents nodded, and we started at work.

Unzipping bags, suitcases, and pulling things out and setting things on the floor is what we did for 30 minutes, until we started putting things away.

My mom put clothes on hangers and stuck them into my wardrobe, while my dad set up and organized things for my desk. Pens, pencils, sticky notes, notebooks, and so much more were shoved into every nook and cranny for me to study with.

While they did that, I set up my bed. I pulled the sheets into each corner, and smoothly placed my comforter onto my bed. An hour later, our hard work paid off and my corner of the room was done being set up.

I turned around to stare at my parents, and a saddening expression was displayed on each of our faces.

"Oh Sophia," My mom choked out as she wrapped her arms carefully around me, resting her face onto my shoulder. She wasn't crying, but I could tell it was a hard goodbye for her.

She pulled away and smiled at me weakly. "Well, I guess it's time we say our goodbyes for now." She looked at my dad, nodding.

"Right. Honey, I'm going to miss you so much. Remember to study and give it your all, you don't want to fall behind. I love you, okay?" My dad said, smiling brightly at me.

My parents gave me their last goodbyes and hugs, and exited out the door. It was extremely silent as the door swung and clicked shut, and I stood there for a moment.

"Wow," I whispered softly, slowly sitting down onto my bed and looking around the room. My clothes neatly folded and hung up in my closet, my stationary and notebooks perfectly aligned, and my bed spread with zero wrinkles.

"Helloooo!" A voice cheerfully cried out, as the door swung open. I whipped around my head, and in rushed a girl. Carrying 5 bags with nobody else, she emptied her hands, dropping the bags carefully onto the floor. She rushed over and immediately swept me into a big hug. "Sophia! It's so great to see you!" She squealed, squeezing me tightly.

"Oh my gosh, hey!" I cried out, laughing, "How are you? We haven't spoken in so long!" I laughed. My roommate, Amara, had reached out to me mid July and we had hung out and become pretty close since. She had amazing energy and always knew exactly what to say.

"How'd you know I wanted the loft?" She smiled, throwing a specific bag onto the top of the loft that I assumed was filled with her bedding.

"I didn't, I just hoped you did!" I grinned, standing up from sitting on the side of my bed. "Do you want me to help you put your bags away?"

"Yeah, that would be great. I was really hoping we could go out tonight to celebrate day one, so the faster we get finished the longer we have to get ready!" She started climbing up the ladder, and pulled sheets out of the bag she threw on top of the bed.

She began fixing up her bed, and I grabbed one of her bags. Opening it up, I saw it was piles and piles of clothes meaning to be folded and put away, or hung up.

An hour and a half later, we were finished. I looked around the room, looking at our completed masterpiece. There wasn't anything dirty in sight, and me and Amara were happy with what we had.

"So, do you want to start getting ready for the party?" Amara asked, looking over.

"Yeah, I just need help picking my outfit," I responded. I walked over to my closet and swung the doors open. I looked back at Amara, and she rushed next to me to look at my clothing.

She rummaged through my closet, and pulled out a denim mini skirt with a pretty white tank top. She grabbed my platform white converse, and shoved the completed outfit into my hands.

"Here, go change in the bathroom quickly, and then you can help me." Amara grinned, pushing me lightly towards the door. I laughed, walking into the bathroom. I quickly changed into the outfit she picked out for me, and walked out of the bathroom.

"Oh my gosh, Sophia! That looks amazing on you!" Amara cheered, bringing me into a tight hug.

"So, you think I should wear this?" I asked, looking at myself in the mirror. Amara nodded quickly.

"Yes! You look so snatched in that tank top." I smiled, and walked over to her closet, opening it up.

"What about you? What do you want to wear?" I looked over at Amara, and she shrugged.

"Find something for me, I know you've got it!" She replied. I looked through her clothes, and pulled out a pair of jean shorts and a pink tank top. Then, I grabbed some pink dunks and closed the closet, handing her the outfit I made.

She took the outfit out of my hands, rushing towards the bathroom excitedly. I smiled, watching her run away. A few minutes later, Amara emerged out of the bathroom, showing off her new outfit. She looked in the mirror, and nodded at the outfit.

"Ready to go?" I asked, searching for my keys.

"Yeah, let's go!" She replied, grabbing her purse. I quickly realized something; I needed to text Lila.

"Hang on, here's my keys. You go find my car, I just quickly need to text somebody." I said to Amara. She took my keys out of my hand, and left the dorm room.

I quickly texted Lila, asking her if she was going to the party. I bit my nails as I watched the text change to read, waiting for her reply. She quickly texted back that she was going, and I smiled. I set my phone in my purse, and exited out of the dorm room, making my way towards the parking lot.
