Myla's POV
The last day of our stay in India came quickly and I was excited for my vacation with Enzo and Sienna. I knew that for the next 4 days, I could relax all I wanted but after that I wouldn't have any time to do anything else. It was a cool evening when I drove back home with my father and brother after the shoot while listening to some songs on the quiet streets of Mumbai. Enzo and I were singing along with the song happily while our father smiled at us from the front.
"Finally, we get to go for our vacation tomorrow", Enzo said to which our father replied. "Well, I hope you three have fun. You've worked really hard these days", the car stopped in front of the hotel we were staying at and we walked back to our respective suites. I hadn't met my mother all day as she was busy meeting some new designers all day and decided to talk to her for some time before going to bed. I walked to her room and Natasha walked out of the room to give us some privacy.
"WHERE WERE THESE EMOTIONS WHILE DISOWNING HER? WHERE WERE THESE TEARS WHILE ANNOUNCING HER AN ORPHAN? SWAPNA, THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST WARNING TO YOU. DO NOT CALL ME EVER AGAIN IN HOPES OF TALKING TO HER", I stood still as soon as I heard that name.
"Karishma, please! I am begging you. Just bring her home once. If he sees her, he'll definitely forgive her and we can all start fresh. It has been 8 years of constant pain for me, Karishma. Don't give me more pain", as soon as I heard her voice from the speaker of the phone, I observed how I felt. I felt.....nothing. I did not feel any different but I definitely wanted to know why she wanted me back.
"Forgive her? Forgive her for what, Swapna? My daughter did nothing wrong. She fell in love and that was not her mistake. Her feelings were played with and you all blamed her. She was young and naive. When you and your husband had to sit down and explain her what was right and wrong, you announced in the news papers that you were disowning her. She was just a 17 years old girl who knew nothing more than what you both wanted her to know. Look at her today. Look at the woman she has become today. Do you think you deserve her now after you broke her to the core 8 years ago?"
"I know we did a mistake. What we did was extreme. But I am asking for an opportunity to correct ourselves-"
"DID IT TAKE 8 WHOLE YEARS TO UNDERSTAND THAT, SWAPNA???", my mother roared. "Did it take almost a decade to learn that you did a mistake and you almost destroyed her life? She is happy with us. She belongs to us legally. We have made a small family for ourselves. She feels home with us. And I would never bring her back to that city and put her in hell again. This is my final decision!", I saw my mother hit end to the call and throw the phone on the bed behind her. It was a good thing she was facing the other side while speaking.
I saw her stand up after a few moments to turn around and freeze in her place upon seeing me. "Myla, dear....", I sucked in a deep breath and walked to her slowly. I slowly wrapped my arms around her and placed my chin on her shoulder. I sighed and sucked in a deep breath. "Myla, I'm sorry you had to hear all that", she whispered. I sighed and said, "It doesn't matter". We were quiet for a few moments until I finally pulled away and cupped her cheeks, "What would have happened to me if you weren't there that day?", she shook her head and a lone tear rolled down my cheeks making her break down too.
"That day in the interview, I somehow knew exactly what to say. I was so brave and so confident in answering a question I was running away from. I wondered where I got that strength from and my only answer was you three. You had no business taking me in that day but you did and saved me from ending up on the streets".
Flashback to a week after Apsara's arrival to London....
I was sitting on the couch with Enzo and watched him play a video game with his father while they both tried to teach me the game and it's rules. I nodded but my mind was too occupied by shame and guilt to understand anything. I watched my aunt walk into the room with her phone to her ears in a hurry and remove the plug of the screen they were playing on. The two men made sounds of frustration when she held her hand up and put the phone on speaker phone.
