Kavya walked into the grand ballroom, her heart pounding in her chest. The lavish decorations, glittering chandeliers, and soft hum of classical music did little to calm her nerves. Tonight was the night she would see Madhav again. The man whose name she had whispered in the depths of her dreams, the man who was now engaged to another. She moved gracefully through the crowd, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of him. She felt out of place among the glamorous guests, all dressed to impress and lost in their conversations. But Kavya had a singular focus-finding Madhav.
When she finally spotted him, her breath caught in her throat. He stood near the center of the room, surrounded by business associates, yet somehow looking detached from the crowd. He was as handsome as ever, his sharp features softened by the warm glow of the room's lighting. But there was a tension in his posture, a slight frown marring his expression.
Without thinking, Kavya began to move toward him, her heart leading the way. As she approached, her mind raced with thoughts of what she would say, how she would explain her sudden appearance after so long. But when Madhav turned his head and their eyes met, all thoughts fled from her mind.
For a moment, it was as if the rest of the world faded away, leaving just the two of them. Kavya felt the familiar pull, the connection that had drawn them together in her dreams. Her lips moved of their own accord, and she whispered the name that had become so dear to her.
"Jaan..."
Madhav's eyes widened slightly at the sound of her voice, a mix of surprise and something else flickering in his gaze. He took a step toward her, as if pulled by the same invisible force.
"Who are you?" he asked, his voice low and filled with curiosity. "How do you know that name?"
Kavya hesitated, the reality of the situation crashing down on her. She had spoken to him as if they were still in the world of her dreams, forgetting that to him, she was a stranger. Her heart raced as she struggled to find the words to explain.
"Madhav... it's me, Kavya," she said, her voice trembling slightly. "I... we..."
But before she could continue, a voice interrupted them. "Madhav, there you are!"
Kavya turned to see Meena Malhotra walking toward them, her expression one of polite curiosity as she glanced at Kavya. Meena slipped her arm through Madhav's, staking her claim in a way that was both subtle and unmistakable.
Madhav's gaze lingered on Kavya for a moment longer before he turned to Meena, his expression shifting to one of calm detachment. "Yes, Meena?"
Meena smiled, though there was a hint of something colder in her eyes as she looked at Kavya. "I was just about to introduce you to some of our guests. But who is this?"
Kavya felt a pang of jealousy but quickly pushed it aside. This wasn't the time for petty emotions. She needed to focus, to make Madhav remember her, to rekindle the connection they had shared.
"I'm Kavya," she said, forcing a smile. "An old acquaintance of Madhav's."
Madhav studied her for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as if trying to place her. But then he nodded, though there was still a hint of confusion in his gaze. "Nice to meet you, Kavya."
The casualness of his tone stung, but Kavya knew she couldn't let it show. She needed to play along, to find a way to reconnect with him without revealing too much. Not here, not now.
"Likewise," she replied, her voice steady. "I've heard a lot about your business ventures, Madhav. Congratulations on your success."
Madhav nodded, but his eyes flicked back to hers, as if searching for something beneath her words. Before he could say anything more, Meena pulled him gently away, guiding him toward another group of guests.
Kavya watched them go, a mixture of emotions swirling within her. This wasn't how she had imagined their reunion. But she couldn't give up now. Somehow, she would make him remember her, remember the love they shared, even if it meant tearing down the walls of reality itself.
As the party continued around her, Kavya silently vowed that this was just the beginning. She would find a way to break through to Madhav, to reclaim the connection that had once been theirs. Even if it took everything she had.
