The night was still young, but for Kavya, it felt like an eternity since she had stepped into the grand ballroom. Every moment spent in Madhav's presence, even as a stranger, made her heart ache with the weight of their shared history-one he could no longer recall. The pain was almost unbearable, but Kavya knew she had to be strong. She couldn't lose him, not again.
As the evening progressed, Kavya kept a close eye on Madhav, watching as he mingled with the guests, his interactions polite but distant. Meena remained by his side, her presence a constant reminder of the barrier between them. The more Kavya saw them together, the more her determination grew. She had to make Madhav remember, to reignite the connection that had bound their souls across lifetimes.
The opportunity came when Madhav momentarily separated from Meena to get a drink. Kavya took a deep breath, her heart pounding in her chest, and approached him. She knew this was risky, that what she was about to do could change everything-but she had to take the chance.
"Madhav," she said softly as she reached him, her voice barely above a whisper.
He turned to face her, his eyes searching hers with that same confused intensity from earlier. "Kavya, wasn't it? What do you want?"
Kavya didn't answer with words. Instead, she stepped closer, her hands trembling slightly as she reached up to cup his face. For a split second, she saw a flicker of something in his eyes-recognition, perhaps? But before she could second-guess herself, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his.
The kiss was electric, a surge of passion and longing that shocked both of them. Madhav stiffened at first, but then, as if on instinct, he kissed her back. The world seemed to fall away as they lost themselves in the kiss, a moment of pure connection that transcended the confusion and the distance between them.
But reality came crashing back all too quickly. Madhav suddenly pulled away, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and anger. He stepped back, putting distance between them as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his expression hardening.
"How dare you!" he hissed, his voice low but laced with fury. "Who the hell are you to kiss me like that?"
Kavya's heart shattered at his words, but she held her ground, her eyes never leaving his. "I'm your Kavi, Madhav. Your Jaan," she said, her voice steady despite the pain. She leaned in closer, her lips brushing his ear as she whispered something soft and seductive-a private memory from their past lives that only they could have shared. "You used to call me your moonlight," she whispered, her voice low and filled with longing. "Remember?"
Madhav froze, his breath hitching as the words hit him like a physical blow. For a moment, it looked as if he might remember, as if the past might finally break through the barriers of time and space. But then his expression hardened again, and he shook his head, stepping even further away from her.
"This is insane," he muttered, almost to himself. "You're insane."
Before Kavya could say anything more, Meena appeared at Madhav's side, her eyes flicking between them with suspicion and anger. "What the hell is going on here?" she demanded, her voice sharp.
Madhav didn't answer. Instead, he turned and walked away, leaving both women standing there in tense silence. Kavya watched him go, her heart aching with the weight of everything she couldn't say, everything she couldn't make him remember.
But she didn't regret the kiss. For the briefest of moments, she had felt their connection spark to life again, and that was enough to fuel her determination. No matter what it took, she would make Madhav remember who they were, who they had always been to each other.
And she would do it before it was too late.
