Kavya stood outside Madhav's home, her heart racing with anticipation. She had felt a pull towards him so strong that she couldn't resist coming to see him, despite the way he had treated her at the party. The memory of his cold words and the distance he had placed between them gnawed at her, but she couldn't shake the feeling that something was deeply wrong.
Taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door. When Madhav opened it, his expression was unreadable, a mask of indifference that hurt her more than any words could.
"Madhav, I need to talk to you," she began, her voice trembling slightly.
He stepped aside, allowing her in without a word. The silence between them was heavy, filled with unspoken emotions and unanswered questions. Kavya could feel the tension in the air, but she was determined to break through it, to reach the Madhav she knew was still there, beneath the cold exterior.
"Madhav, what happened at the party?" she asked softly, her eyes searching his for any sign of the warmth she once felt from him. "Why did you push me away?"
Madhav turned away, avoiding her gaze. "Kavya, you need to leave."
His voice was flat, emotionless, and it sent a chill down her spine. This wasn't the Madhav she knew. Something had changed, and it wasn't just the kiss. But before she could question him further, her own emotions took over. She reached out, her hand trembling as it moved to touch his arm.
"Madhav, please," she whispered, "don't push me away. I need you."
But the moment her fingers brushed against his skin, a sharp, searing pain shot through her, so intense that she gasped and recoiled. The pain was unlike anything she had ever felt before, a burning sensation that left her breathless and disoriented.
Madhav turned around, his eyes hard and cold. "What did I tell you, Kavya? You need to leave."
Kavya, still reeling from the pain, tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat. She had come here hoping to mend whatever had gone wrong between them, but now, it felt like the distance between them was growing insurmountable.
"Why are you doing this?" she asked, her voice breaking. "Why are you treating me like this?"
Madhav's expression hardened further. "Because I don't know you, Kavya. I don't know who you are or what you want from me. I'm engaged. I have a life that doesn't involve you."
The words hit her like a physical blow, and Kavya felt her heart shatter. She had known he was engaged, had seen the news, but hearing him say it, hearing him deny their connection so vehemently, was more than she could bear.
"Madhav," she pleaded, her voice trembling with emotion, "we have a connection. You know it as well as I do. Don't deny what we have."
He shook his head, his eyes filled with a cold resolve. "You need to stop this, Kavya. Whatever you think we had, it's over. There's nothing between us, and there never will be. So please, leave."
Tears welled up in Kavya's eyes as she looked at him, unable to comprehend how things had gone so horribly wrong. She had come here believing that they could find a way back to each other, but instead, she was faced with a man who seemed determined to cut her out of his life.
"Madhav, please," she whispered, her voice breaking with desperation. "Don't do this."
But Madhav's resolve didn't waver. "Goodbye, Kavya."
The finality in his tone broke her. With tears streaming down her face, Kavya turned and fled from his home, her heart heavy with pain and confusion. As she walked away, the pain in her chest intensified, mirroring the agony in her heart. She couldn't understand why he was doing this, why he was pushing her away so cruelly when everything in her soul told her they were meant to be together.
Inside the house, Madhav watched her go, his own heart aching with the pain he couldn't show. Every word he had spoken to her had felt like a dagger in his own chest, but he knew it was necessary. The curse was too powerful, too dangerous. If they gave in to their desires, if they broke the rules set by the curse, the consequences would be catastrophic.
As he closed the door behind her, Madhav leaned against it, his hand clutching his chest where the pain from the curse still throbbed. "I'm sorry, Kavya," he whispered to the empty room. "But I have to protect you. Even if it means breaking both our hearts."
But the pain he felt now was nothing compared to the pain he knew they would both endure if the curse was not lifted. And for that, he would endure anything, even if it meant pushing away the woman he loved more than life itself.
