Chapter 9

: The Quest Continues :

Vixensky was still trying to get over their shock, they had to lean against Thornclaw for support.
Toad was glaring at Stick and Dodge, his yellow fur prickling.
Stick turned to Toad. “Son listen-”
Toad cut him off. “No you listen!” he snapped. “Do you ever wonder why I left?!” the usually calm tom demanded. “I left because all you and dad do is fight!” he hissed.
Dodge looked at Toad, a flicker of guilt in his eyes. “Toad, it's not your fault we fight. We just don't get along because he-”
Toad interrupted once again. “I don't want to hear it! I'm not speaking to either of you ever again unless you start getting along!” he snarled.
Dodge shot Stick one last glare. “Fine.” he growled, turning to his cats he added, “Sheath your claws!”
Marshmallow’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What?!” he demanded.
Dodge fixed him a glare. “You heard me, sheath your claws!” he snapped.
Marshmallow’s claws gradually disappeared into his ragged white fur.
Toad took a steadying breath. “Now, me and these cats,” he gestured at the ThunderClan patrol. “Are looking for SkyClan.” he explained.
Stick nodded. “I can take you to their territory.” he offered.
Toad flicked an ear in acknowledgment. “Yes I know, but there's actually something else.”
Lionblaze and Berrynose gave Toad a suspicious (and in Berrynose’s case irritated) look.
What else would there be? Vixensky immediately was cut with suspicion, then wanted to claw themselves. What it wrong with me?! I don’t have to be like him! They dug their claws into the ground.
Stick gave Toad an inquisitive look. “And what is that?”
Toad fixed his eyes on one of Dodge’s cats. “To make sure Maple can't blackmail Darktail.” he replied dryly.
A dark red tom with a darker stripe down his back that enveloped his tail stepped forward. “And what is that supposed to mean?” he growled.
Darktail bushed out his fur, eyes narrowing with fury. “What do you think it means?” his voice was dangerously quiet.
Oh something is about to get revealed. . . Vixensky observed, their premonition strong as it used to be.
Rain lashed his tail. “Maple you know exactly what he means! You and your mate. . . Trying to tear down the clans, we aren't stupid!”
Okay, makes sense, but what would this have to do with Darktail? Oh. . . Oh wait. . . Yikes. Realization dawned on them.
Maple let out a snarl. “Now what would I have against the clans?” he demanded.
Dodge whisked his tail. “Other than your mate being Smoke?” he grumbled.
His mate is who?! Vixensky’s eyes widened in utter shock. They had come to that conclusion subconsciously, but it was still quite a surprise.
Maple lashed his tail. “So?”
Toad, Rain and Darktail all simultaneously blinked in annoyance. Darktail was the one who responded. “Smoke has a history with my father. Because he's my father. And a WindClan cat.”
Gasps of shock sounded from the ThunderClan cats, except Thornclaw.
Thornclaw turned to Vixensky. “I kind of figured.” he whispered. “One of Darktail’s whiskers is curled exactly like Onestar’s.”
Oh yeah, it is. Vixensky gave Thornclaw an impressed look. They were even more impressed that Thornclaw had actually guessed right. (As there were several WindClan toms directly related to Onestar)
Berrynose glared at the three cats. “Werid you never talked that you had clan heritage.” he growled.
Rain whipped around. “Werid you aren't liked by anyone!”
Toad lightly kicked his mate. “Shush!” he turned to Dodge. “Let it be known that Maple is a terrible cat.”
Dodge nodded slightly.
I did not think that cat had a single reasonable bone is his body, then again, he is talking to his son. . . Why am I so horrible?
Toad then turned to Stick. “Alright, let's go.”
Stick nodded and signalled with his tail for the cats to follow.
Vixensky sighed. Finally.
The cats hurried on as Stick took the lead through the twolegplace.
Soon. SkyClan will be restored! And I'll help! I'll finally do something right! Excitement tinged at Vixensky. Maybe for once they could partially deserve everything they had!

I ended up updating chapter 7 cuz I had to check who was on the patrol from ThunderClan (Lionblaze, Hazeltail, Thornclaw and Berrynose)
Also Vixensky’s ramblings make no sense sometimes. Also yes more cliffhanger.
