Author's POV

Zoya was sleeping peacefully when she had a nightmare of her father calling out to her for help, which woke her up.

She sat up with a jerk, her forehead sweaty when the realisation hit her that her dad is no more. Her fear and past seemed to overpower her mind and her hands trembled as she looked around for her phone. She picked up her phone, and decided to call her friend, Zavrina, when she unintentionally called Zaviyar. She wasn't in her senses and needed someone to comfort her.

Her heart was racing, her senses completely lost, sweat on her forehead, her mind only recalling bad memories of her past. She was impatiently waiting for Zavrina to pick up the call, her breath heavy from fear.

After a few rings, Zavrina picked up, but what Zoya didn't know was that it was Zaviyar whom she was about to talk to. She immediately spoke, not giving the person on the other line a chance to speak. She had tears streaming down her face, her state horrible as she spoke,

"Zav...Zavrina, can you come to my place right now? I've seen dad in a nightmare. I'm all alone, my cousins left yesterday. I'm scared, what if they come again? Can you come to me? Please?," her voice was trembling as she spoke

Zaviyar was left speechless as he heard her. A knot formed in his chest hearing her crying voice and the words she spoke somehow made him feel bad for her.

Feel bad? Till half an hour ago, you were barking about how she's no one to you. His brain said

Some emotion rose across his heart, wanting him to rush to her, to comfort her, to protect her. He couldn't bear to hear the person afraid who had comforted him three years ago. He wanted her to be fearless and hearing her like this, he despised it. But what he couldn't believe was that this was the same brutal voice that had been challenging and strong in a meeting that was held between them not even a day ago. He composed his thoughts and said,

"Zoya...are you okay," his voice was unusually soft, surprising him too, but it made Zoya realise that she called Zaviyar instead of Zavrina. Her expressions changed immediately. She got herself embarrassed in front of him. Great! Taking, a deep breath she said,

"I-I'm fine, thanks. I'm sorry for disturbing you in the middle of the night. If you don't mind, can this conversation stay between the two of us. I'm fine," She composed herself as she spoke, though she was still scared. His voice seemed oddly soothing to her, something she hated. To her, men were just there for their own purposes and for dominating women. And relationships? They meant nothing to her, considering she had seen the her loved ones break in front of her.

"Yeah sure, I won't let this get to anyone. Also, if you need to share anything, keep in mind I'm there, forever. Take care of yourselves, hmm? Goodnight," with that, he cut the call.

As soon as he cut the call, she sat up straight, drank water and took a deep breath. His words seemed to have done some sort of magic on her. Why though? Till date, she had never recovered from her nightmares without crying her eyes out, or sharing all of it with a friend. He said to take care of herself, but why would he care?

"He cares for me?," she murmured, but her cold subconscious retorted almost instantly,"No. All men are the same, no one is understanding or caring..." with her jaw clenched tight, she said those words to herself, once again coming back to her rude form.

She laid down in her bed, relaxing immediately, his words still lingering in her mind. Meanwhile, her heavy and choked voice seemed to have enchanted him. He hated it, he wanted to burn the person alive who dared to get to his Zoya.

Bhai? Your Zoya? Ye kab hua hai?  His subconscious said

(Bro? Your Zoya? When did this happen?)
