Chapter 11: The Final Boss

Tari POV-

I stepped onto the stage, adjusted the mechanics and chose my fighter. I was ready to either walk out of this with a trophy, or with a humble smile on my face

Everyone cheered in hype, as the final battle was about to start

"Alright everyone!", the announcer said, ready to hype everyone up, "After many incredible performances and efforts from the players we've witnessed today, we now reach our climax..."

"Tari!", the announcer said, pointing at me, "consistent underdog of our tournament for years running!"

"Verses Evelyn!", the announcer said, pointing at her, "Our reigning champion!"

"The rules are simple: each player will have 5 lives, and only a single final smash will be used by each of them!", the announcer said, "No cheating, no funny business, and no outside help!"

"3...2...1... GAME ON!!!", the announcer shouted, exciting everyone

KKR started with blasting his cannon, but Yoshi dodges it. However, KKR used that opportunity to grab Yoshi, and fire him out of his cannon

"Grr!", a noise I let out a bit

Yoshi then responded by performing a midair roll attack. KKR dodges it

"Got ya!", Evelyn said, as she had KKR throw his crown at Yoshi

"Oh no you don't!", I said, as I had Yoshi eat the crown

"Huh?!", Evelyn said

I then had Yoshi spit the crown back at KKR, dealing damage to him. Before Evelyn could react, KKR was met with a charged kick attack. KKR tried to tackle Yoshi, but Yoshi dodges it and grabbed him from behind, and landed the finishing hit and sending him to space

"King K Rool has been knocked out! This battle is now 5:4 in Tari's favor!", the announcer said

I jumped in excitement, and looked back at my friends

"Letsa GO!", Mario said. "That's my girl!", Meggy said. "Smash the loud mouth out of that bully!", Saiko shouted. "Great job Tari, keep it up!", Whimpu said, with a confident look

I looked back, as the game was still going and I could not start celebrating now, although I was slightly tempted

I saw Evelyn's face though. Knowing her, I expected her to freak out over me gaining an early lead, but she was actually... smiling a bit?

"Could... this mean that she's realizing she doesn't need to destroy someone in a match to be satisfied?", I thought to myself in optimism, "Maybe we don't need to be mortal enemies!"

I wasn't going to let that distract me, however, as I was ready to continue

KKR, now invincible for a moment in time, launched a cannonball at Yoshi. Yoshi dodges it, and jumps higher. I had Yoshi stall and dodge KKR's attacks, although they didn't seem as aggressive as I thought they'd be. Once KKR was vulnerable, he threw his crown at Yoshi, but Yoshi dodges it and kicks KKR with a hard kick

Confident in how this match was going, I continued the damage

Whimpu POV-

The other girls were getting excited for the lead Tari has acquired over Evelyn, while the other guys were also cheering. But I... was slightly offset by what I was witnessing

I must've had a certain kind of look on my face, because Meggy came and asked why I seemed to skeptical

"Dude, what's wrong?", Meggy asked, "Tari's winning!"
