The following week felt unusually heavy for Abhinav. Dishita’s behavior had become more erratic, her smiles less frequent, and her attention fragmented. Despite his attempts to broach the subject, she always brushed it off with a quick, "I’m fine." But Abhinav knew her well enough to recognize that something was deeply troubling her.

It was Friday afternoon, and the group had decided to meet at the local park after school. It was a tradition they maintained to unwind after a week of rigorous studies. As they gathered under their usual tree, the mood was lighter than usual, but Abhinav’s heart was still heavy with worry.

Khusi was in high spirits, joking and laughing with Aditya, who seemed to enjoy her company. Abhinav noticed that Aditya’s gaze lingered on Khusi more often, but he chose not to dwell on it. There were more pressing concerns at hand.

Dishita arrived late, her face drawn and tired. She offered a half-hearted smile to everyone and sat down beside Abhinav. As the group began to play a casual game of Frisbee, Abhinav couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt at how distant she seemed.

During a break in the game, Eesha approached Abhinav. Her expression was serious, betraying her usually cheerful demeanor. "Abhi, I need to talk to you."

They moved away from the group, finding a quieter spot by the park’s edge. "What’s up, Eesha?" Abhinav asked, his voice tinged with concern.

"I’ve noticed something," Eesha began cautiously. "Dishita’s been acting strange lately, and I don’t think it’s just about being tired. I’ve seen her with someone else after school sometimes, but I can’t figure out who it is."

Abhinav’s heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean? Who have you seen her with?"

Eesha shook her head. "I don’t know. I only caught glimpses of her talking to someone, but I couldn’t see their face. It’s been happening for a few days now. I thought you should know, because it seems like it might be something important."

Abhinav felt a mix of relief and apprehension. Relief that someone else had noticed the change, and apprehension at the possibility of Dishita being involved with someone else. "Thanks for telling me, Eesha. I’ll try to figure out what’s going on."

As the evening wore on, Abhinav found himself unable to enjoy the park outing. His thoughts were consumed by Eesha’s words and the growing suspicion that Dishita might be hiding something significant. He decided that he needed to confront her directly, but he wasn’t sure how to approach it without causing a scene.

The group began to pack up as the sun started setting, casting a warm orange glow over the park. Abhinav walked beside Dishita, trying to muster the courage to speak up. The silence between them felt thicker than ever.

"Dishita," he began cautiously, "can we talk for a minute?"

She looked at him with a mix of curiosity and weariness. "Sure, what’s up?"

They walked a short distance away from the group to a more secluded part of the park. Abhinav took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. "Eesha told me she’s seen you with someone after school. Is there something going on that you’re not telling me?"

Dishita’s eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, she looked like she was about to say something. But then her expression hardened, and she crossed her arms. "Abhinav, I told you I’m fine. There’s nothing going on."

Her defensive stance did little to reassure him. "Dishita, I care about you. I’m just trying to understand what’s happening. If you’re seeing someone else, I need to know. It’s not fair to me to be kept in the dark."

Dishita’s face softened for a moment, and she looked away. "It’s not about you, Abhinav. It’s just... complicated."

Abhinav’s heart sank. "Complicated how? You can talk to me. We’re best friends, remember?"

Dishita sighed heavily. "It’s not something I can explain easily. I’m dealing with some personal issues, and I’m not ready to talk about them yet."

The vague response left Abhinav feeling more confused than ever. He wanted to press further, but he could see that Dishita was clearly not in the mood for a deeper conversation. "Okay," he said reluctantly. "I just wish you’d trust me enough to share what’s really going on."

She gave him a small, apologetic smile. "I know. I’m sorry. I’ll try to be more open soon. I promise."

As they rejoined the group, Abhinav’s mind was still racing. What could be so complicated that Dishita couldn’t share it with him? And why did he have this sinking feeling that whatever it was, it might be affecting their friendship more than he realized?
